We were just talking about Pitbull. And I can’t get that line out of my head: “I’m from the dirty, but that chico nice” Feel That Moment… should really be Leonardo DiCaprio’s theme song. Because he feels EVERY moment. Where’s the party for the next month? It’s in Brazil. Full Story

The FIFA World Cup opening ceremony is happening right now. Teams have been arriving through the week. I wrote earlier in the Brange article about the Athlete Group Suit Shot, remember? How hot it is when they travel in business attire en masse and how I’d take this any time over athletes in underwear? Well now we have an examples. Full Story

You ready? The FIFA World Cup starts tomorrow. This is why no one in Europe will be going to the movies for an entire month. This is why Laura, our supervising producer on The Social will be screaming at the television for an entire month (or less – ha!). Full Story

This one is for my cousin Cat who loves Rafael Nadal. When she was pregnant with her second son last year I kept telling her to call him Rafa. In the end she went with something better to go with her first son Sasha. Marcel! How cute is that? Sasha and Marcel! Anyway, Cat's Rafa. Full Story

Please enjoy these photos of Prince enjoying Rafael Nadal win in straight sets at the French Open today to advance to the quarterfinals. It takes real commitment to wear a turtleneck this time of year. And to perch on his signature tricked out cane like he’s the boss of everyone and they’re all there to play for him. Full Story

Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League yesterday. It was already a legendary career for Iker Casillas. And now…one more. But this was his first win as a father. With Sara Carbonero watching in the stands, Iker had baby Martin with him on the pitch during celebrations. He wept. Of course he did. Full Story

Big win last night for the Raptors. I actually came home to Toronto last night – and they still didn’t lose! (Although I made Jacek change the channel so I wouldn’t jinx them.) According to his Twitter, Drake watched Game 3 from home at the ACC. Full Story

Courtside priorities

#WeTheNorth Jacek’s right. If I want a team to win, I have to get as far away from them as possible. As expected, Drake was courtside at the Raptors game last night to watch the Northern Uprising even the series against the Brooklyn Nets. Now I’m curious to know if he’ll travel with the team to New York for the next game on Friday. Full Story

Game 2, the Toronto Raptors host the Brooklyn Nets tonight at the Air Canada Centre. Why am I in New York? Well, Jacek always says I jinx my teams. Maybe it’s a good thing because we lost on Saturday and that can’t happen again this evening. The Raptors official ambassador, Drake, was photographed in Toronto with friends on Sunday, likely to support his team. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse, the first female bobsledders to win back-to-back gold medals at the Olympics. Well that deserves a spotlight, non?

I like the way Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova slammed the boards “let’s go!” before she skated. Like, f-ck you, world, and my own country a little maybe too, for ignoring me for the 15 year old.

So I was a genius yesterday. I sat on my bag. It had my laptop in it. It was more like a plop. You know how you throw yourself into a chair ass first? F-cked up my tailbone. Standing is fine. Lying down is fine. Sitting is the hell. They had to shoot me from greenroom, lying down on the couch, on The Social.

Sorry about the truncated afternoon. Am slowly making my way around today. Should be normal blog schedule.  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

Yulia.

It was Yulia Lipnitskaya who dominated the discussion on the ladies’ figure skating side last week. Some believe she was over-judged. That they were so charmed by her pluck and precociousness they’ve ranked her higher than she deserves to be ranked. That she will eventually get there but that she’s definitely not there yet, and certainly not as there as her competitors. Who’s that? Well, Gracie Gold is one of them. Which is why Gold’s coach, Frank Carroll, offered this bitchy remark when commenting on Yulia’s team skate performance:

“I do think she’s wonderful, but she’s a little girl. Should we call it the little girl Olympics or is it the Olympic ladies’ champion?”

Oh it’s time now.  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

Tina Maze won the Giant Slalom today in Sochi. It was her second gold medal of the Games after winning Slovenia’s first gold medal ever last week. But…did you know she’s a rocker? Her song My Way Is My Decision has been called the Roar of her country. The video is below. And check her out on stage on Sunday after the medal ceremony for the Women’s Slalom. HOT. Totally my Olympic Girl Crush. If she were North American she’d be a major superstar by now.

Welcome back to those of you returning from long weekend. It was a regular day here at LaineyGossip on Monday. Please scroll down and click VIEW MORE to catch up on what you missed. As for those of you asking for commentary on Miley’s tour opener in Vancouver, that’s coming later this morning. House Of Cards? I’ve not started yet and I won’t be able to start until after the Oscars and after I start re-watching Veronica Mars.  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

Evgeni Plushenko has retired. And that sucks. Because the competition lacked a lot of hips yesterday. We all lose when there aren’t enough hips. But you know what I did love about the whole situation? It’s that his retirement basically dominated the event. He didn’t skate and the conversation was still about him. His retirement announcement afterwards only made it more so. Like, he couldn’t wait until the Games were over before confirming it so as to not take (even more of) the spotlight away from the field?

Of course not.

In blasting out his retirement yesterday, Plushy not only pulled a Mimi (ME ME ME ME), he also made everyone else feel like no matter what happens, even if they win, there will always be something missing – because they didn’t win over HIM.  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

Shani Davis did not win yesterday although he still has a chance for another gold on Saturday. To me, it doesn’t matter, especially not when you consider what he’s done for diversity at the Winter Olympics through his career. Some are calling these games the most inclusive Winter Olympics ever. And that’s definitely a positive. But we’ve still a long way to go on representation. Athletics is not unlike education – it comes down to access and opportunity. As Davis himself said, when asked whether or not the next generation of American speedskaters would feature those from a variety of different backgrounds, he answered honestly:

“Unfortunately, I don’t think that will ever happen. The price of an oval is very [expensive]. It’s not a mainstream sport like football or basketball.  Read Full Intro
