Does Ringer Love You?
Ringer Season 1 Episode 7 recap
A couple of days ago, I was writing about how it’s strange when the audience on a show knows more than the characters.
Um, Ringer does not give me that problem.
You guys, this show is so messed up. You never know what you know is true, what’s a lie, what you’ve been shown already that can be erased and redone and reshown to be the truth, to make you look like you don’t know what you thought you knew.
Is that fun or frustrating?
Right now we are just beginning to see the depths of how not-all-that-strange this new world is to Bridget. (PS, I received a HILARIOUS email about how Bridget and Siobhan set their daughters on their respective paths by not naming them more consistently.) She thinks pretty damn fast for someone whose previous sliding-around-the-law was based mostly in harming herself. Did you see her leave that message for herself? Did you see her work Machado without so much as a whimper?
I will get into the weird daddy issues of liking your sister’s husband way better than your sister ever did in a second (and seriously, how excited are you for Bridget to be pregnant with his baby and be all PARDONNEZ-MOI), but let’s talk about her rust level with Mr. AA, who was clearly planted by Siobhan. This means he was, what, hitting all the NA/AA meetings in the five boroughs until he saw Bridget turn up at one? That is some commitment.
Which brings me to my next point. How off the charts brilliant are Siobhan and Bridget? Like what kind of IQs are we talking about here? Whenever I see nefariously brilliant schemes go down on TV, I literally think “I am just not smart enough for that” because seriously. Who comes up with that stuff? I guess the answer is ‘writers who chose not to go into a life of crime’ but I’m impressed.
So Siobhan’s an evil genius. Bridget is …quick and clever, let’s say for now. Poor Andrew is alarmed, Annoying Henry is off my screen and I don’t care what any of you say, until I see Gemma’s cold, lifeless body, I assume she’s out there, somewhere…
So since nothing on this show is by accident, here’s my next question. What the hell is Logan Echolls doing there? What is this plot? (For the uninitiated, Logan Echolls = Jason Dohring = Juliet’s teacher) People were outraged she had his number, but let’s assume he’s doing a Dangerous Minds with these kids and so it’s all kosher. Still – what exactly is he doing here? Did Siobhan sleep with him to get him to ruin Juliet’s life? Is he secretly an undercover cop who’s trying to sniff out where the drugs in high school are coming from? All of these are ridiculous, but I’m trying to find out why we’re supposed to care about a teacher Juliet is obviously going to be doing in five minutes…
Last night my friend Em asked if anyone on Ringer was having any fun. I think that’s just beginning. I don’t know what’s going on, but that’s OK and fun too. We have, depending on who you ask, either three or four more episodes before a big break for the new year, so it can only get weirder. I can’t wait to find out who’s going to be Psychopath Of The Week next week. My money’s on Machado – though Malcolm might be right in there, too.
