Lainey emailed me last night and said I needed to go look at Norm Macdonald’s Twitter. So I did and it turns out that Macdonald, who appeared on SNL40 over the weekend, was having an SNL-themed story time about the week running up to the anniversary special. The big revelation that everyone is latching onto is that Eddie Murphy was supposed to appear in the “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch as Bill Cosby, but that he backed out at the eleventh hour because he didn’t want to “kick a man when he was down”. Full Story

Obviously I was a huge Breaking Bad fan, and as much as it stressed me out, I miss writing the recaps as it made my love for, and understanding of, the show that much deeper. But I wasn’t super excited about Better Call Saul; a prequel spin-off seems like it was just a disaster waiting to happen. Full Story

And now for everything that reminds us that Saturday Night Live is never quite as good as we want it to be. Actors impersonating characters During the “Weekend Update” bit several actors appeared as famous SNL characters. Emma Stone impersonated Gilda Radner’s “Roseanne Roseannadanna”, Melissa McCarthy attempted to take on Chris Farley and “Matt Foley”, and Edward Norton almost got there with “Stefon” and Bill Hader. Full Story

Like Saturday Night Live itself, the 40th anniversary celebration show was a mixed bag. Here’s everything that was good. Andy Samberg’s digital short Because they are ALWAYS good, but this one, sung with Adam Sandler featuring an assist from Chris Parnell, highlighted the history of character breaks on the show. Full Story

I understand opening SNL40 with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. It certainly wasn't a surprise though. This is a great example of choosing to give people what they want over what they need. Then again, the idea of a reunion show is a "want over need" situation to begin with. It was to be expected. Full Story

Jon Stewart has hosted The Daily Show for sixteen years. During that time he’s evolved that show from a celebrity-driven late night talk show to an actual news source, seen three presidents come and go, reported on two wars, the worst terrorist attack in US history, and countless national tragedies. Full Story

Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, and Taylor Kitsch were photographed in LA shooting True Detective season 2 yesterday. It seems like they were shooting some kind of armed standoff. As you know, all three of them play police officers. I like Rachel in cop mode. My Photo Assumption is that all three are comfortable, relaxed with each other, totally friendly. Full Story

The Walking Dead returns this Sunday, and Entertainment Weekly dedicated this week’s cover feature to the show. Usually when they do this, they have a group cover shot, or multiple cover variants for different characters on the show, but this time they’ve given the lone cover to Norman Reedus by himself. Full Story

With SNL’s 40th anniversary celebration looming this February (even though the real anniversary is in October but this works to accommodate Sweeps), there’s a lot of SNL coverage, including a new feature in The Hollywood Reporter featuring the people who have hosted at least five times, including Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen, Drew Barrymore—the only two women to host 5+ times in forty years, but no, this show totally doesn’t have a diversity problem Full Story

Her white dress didn’t suck either. But it was what she had to say, what she continues to say, that is the only conversation. I love how it started. About how she has to use her imagination when she’s reading to her daughter. Because, frankly, and too often, children’s stories only look one way. Full Story

The trailer is here, at long last! Everything you’ve heard or thought about Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (they dropped the “The” somewhere along the way, and I’m still inclined to put it in every time) can now be confirmed or at least guesstimated. Watch: There’s no debate about the premise, obviously. Full Story

Coming off Amy Poehler’s last year as co-host of the Golden Globes, I keep reminding myself that Parks And Recreation is in its final run, and I need to set my PVR. I have watched the show since the first season, when Leslie Knope was just a female Michael Scott and the entire storyline revolved around the creation of one park. Full Story
