Mad Men Season 6 Episode 7 recap “I told you NOT to answer the phone” “Then stop callin’ me!” You remember it, don’t you? An exchange from Pretty Woman. Another hotel, another powerful man. It felt delicious, didn’t it? Have we been ruined, a whole generation of us? To think of that sentiment – being tucked away, exclusively for his use – in a good rather than a horrifying light? Of course, that hotel wasn’t the Regent Beverly Wilshire, and nothing about the scenario was romantic. Full Story
A New Car
Mad Men Season 6 Episode 6 I have been living with unintentional renos for the past four months. That is to say, we had a big fat water leak, it did immeasurable damage, and the very nice people at the insurance company have been taking care of it for us, but it’s a long process that takes a lot of time and most of my stuff has been in boxes since 2013 began. Mad Men Season 6 Episode 5 recap That’s what was in store for us this week. That’s why we got to know Dawn last week, a little more personality to put behind the drama of this week. That’s why the previews reminded us that Don and Linda Cardellini "can’t fall in love", perish the thought – we needed to worry for her safety, and for the good Doctor’s, too. Full Story
The Differences Between Ketchup and Catsup
Mad Men Season 6 Episode 3 recap They were explained to me for the first time. You? I always thought catsup was supposed to be spicy, which sounded kind of appealing. But the differences were drawn clearly here: one is delicious and special and unique, and the other just …isn’t. That was, of course, the case with a number of plotlines this episode. Full Story
“That Was Churchill”
Mad Men Season 6 Episode 3 recap Let’s start with a nice easy situation – how do we feel about creepy upbeat Bob? I am myself somewhat upbeat, but I can’t stand people who are always trying to accentuate the positive when all you want to do is have a good drink and a pout. Bob thereby accomplishes the impossible at the end of the episode – he goes to buy toilet paper and simultaneously makes me empathize with Pete, something I had no hope of doing earlier. Full Story
Despair! Everybody’s Doing It!
Mad Men Season 6 Episode 1 recap Did you feel warmed and welcomed by your friends? Were you filled with the holiday spirit? Do you feel invigorated because 1968 is here and feeling fresh and new? Or are you only focused on the fact that Betty Francis said what she said and the world didn’t explode at 10:17? I feel like we should save that, because the episode wanted me to see that Don is Falling Apart, so let’s acknowledge that first. Full Story
Yeah, I’m still freeballing...

Is what I’m reading from this expression on Jon Hamm’s face. The suit material is thick enough to hide the outline. Here’s Hamm at the Season 6 premiere the day after it was reported that Mad Men producers politely requested he wear underwear ostensibly so as to contain his uncontainable junk. Full Story
Freeball on your own time but not on ours
Is the message that AMC apparently delivered to Jon Hamm on the set of Mad Men because, as you know, he lets his sh-t swing unencumbered, even in costume, so that they have to keep photoshopping his dick down in the promotional shots. Tired of the extra work required to tone down his meat, network executives have asked that Hamm add underwear to his daily routine. Full Story
Holding back Jon Hamm
Jon Hamm was in Hawaii yesterday with Jessica Pare shooting for the upcoming season of Mad Men. As you can see, he’s in swim trunks. And not freeballing for a change. Why? Because he doesn’t get to pick his own clothes on the show. Because the costume designer is telling him to gird that sh-t in some underwear so he’s not showing the contours of his head through his pants when the episode airs. Full Story
Best Emmys Torch-Pass: Mad Men’s Out; Homeland’s In
Kevin Winter/ Kevork Djansezian/ Getty
Two things can happen when a show sweeps an entire subsection of categories like Homeland just did: either fans who aren’t watching jump in and catch up on this new phenomenon so they can be a part of the club, or they sniff that obviously it’s already “too popular” and agree to miss out. One Question Answered

Mad Men Season 5 finale episode 13 recap I really wondered why they had cast Alexis Bledel as the object of Pete's misplaced affection. She's the right age, of course, and has that slightly other-era look, but I'm so used to Mad Men actors being utterly new to me (Elisabeth Moss was totally unrecognizable as far as I'm concerned) that it seemed incongruous. Mad Men Season 5 Episode 12 recap There's only so long I can procrastinate before bellying up to the truth - I don't want to write this Mad Men recap, because there's little joy to be found, and because the show said almost everything that could be said, in a relatively dialogue-light episode. Mad Men Season 5 Episode 11 recap I am slightly shy to say "I told you so" (which is about to be a meta-statment) but I have always maintained that Mad Men is about the women. The men, apart from Don, are similar with similar problems and only vary in their reactions to the same situations they come across. Full Story

Mad Men Season 5 Episode 10 recap At our house the boy has an oft-repeated phrase employed during Mad Men. He takes great delight at muttering “Shut Up Pete” after most bright, Peter-like declarations. It's not like it's a revelatory statement, but it's surprising how often it comes in handy. Full Story
