Bono gossip, latest news, photos, and video.
Many thanks to the major players for their Christmas kindness - no eloping, no divorcing, no adopting, no getting caught cheating, no super scandal to interrupt the long holiday weekend giving the gossip business an extended break. Is Matthew McConaughey considered a Major Player anymore? Was he ever? Not being facetious. Just really curious about how you’d rank him. In some conversations, “Major Player” includes a Kardashian. I’d like to believe that that sh-t peaked in 2011.
It’ll be a light week of posting until everyone resumes a normal schedule right after the New Year. For those of you who keep asking about Blake and Ryan though, and there are a lot of you, yes, I do have exclusive details about their multi-destination Christmas. More on that later.
Wouldn’t it have been great to have been in Ireland, at the entrance to St Stephen’s Park in Dublin, to see Bono and Glen Hansard busking for charity on Christmas Eve?
Yours in gossip,
You’ll have to excuse the huge Canadian flag plastered all over this article. It’s just... there was a lot of swagger to go around last night at the opening of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival as Bono and the Edge arrived to screen Davis Guggenheim’s From The Sky Down, a documentary about Achtung Baby, the album that brought the band back from the brink. Christy Turlington attended the Modelinia Beautiful Friends Forever Bracelets event in NY yesterday to Benefit Save The Children. We debate a lot about who’s had what done and how etc etc etc and we disagree on a lot too but can we agree to agree all the time, every single day that this is all natural and perfect? Always? I will FIGHT you on it. Full Story
I always wished Madonna’s birthday was not on August 16. Because August 16 is when Elvis died. It seemed like bad luck to me. I’ve mentioned my Elvis obsession when I was younger, right? One of the details that always upset me was how heavy his coffin was. Oh Elvis. Anyway, today is Madonna’s 52nd. Full Story
As you know, Bono had emergency back surgery in May necessitating the postponement of the North American leg of the U2 360 Degree tour until fall. He’s been convalescing at his home Eze-sur-Mer but on Sunday borrowed Sir Philip Green’s (Topshop) helicopter to go house shopping in Nice close to where the Brange and the Beckhams live. Full Story
Movie release dates are very confusing. I thought Dorian Gray was out a long time ago. And it’s available now on Air Canada, at least it was when we flew Toronto to Frankfurt en route to Nice. So I thought it had already opened in North America but now I’m not entirely sure since Ben Barnes was promoting it today in Spain. Full Story
I wrote yesterday that U2 fans have been keeping up with the Bono motorcade while they’re in town and a lucky fan was invited inside his SUV the other night for a photo. Her name is Marley. The photo is attached. And the story is the cutest. In Marley’s words:Hey! I'm the fan that bono invited into his SUV! It was definitely the most exciting experience of my life and he was so incredibly nice. Full Story
Champagne. Apparently they like their champagne. U2 played Toronto Wednesday, a well timed 2 show stop on their tour to coincide with the festival. They came in a couple days earlier, hit up Colin Farrell’s Ondine premiere, Bono and The Edge popped into the Masonic Temple for a quick visit – photos attached – and post concert last night they celebrated at an exclusive afterparty at ONE where they cleaned out the restaurant of its entire supply of Moet. Like I said last week, Coldplay is fortunate they did not perform after Radiohead. Because in their first Grammy live performance, Radiohead owned everyone’s ass. And my Gwyneth introduced them! Her smugness must be killing you… So there were some sucky sh-t performances, and then there were the ones that made you thankful for DVR. Full Story
Last night in London, at the home of some obscenely wealthy investment dude and his socialite wife, a star studded party with a £10,000 entrance fee in support of Darfur victims spearheaded by George Clooney attracted the likes of Bono, Guy Ritchie, Trudie Styler, Cindy Crawford, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes…and more… for a reported total raised of £10million. The GMD, Brad Pitt… and Bono too! Here he is in New York where he’s been in meetings with the UN – he and Bob Geldof are apparently supporting a plan that would provide nearly $1.5 billion to African farmers. As you can see, Bono’s lifts are not wedgies like Tom Cruise’s, nor are they dress heels like Brad Pitt’s Full Story
