Well now I have another reason to love her. Mindy Kaling and I are housemates. Mindy attended the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood last night. I was lucky enough to go to the opening of the one in Orlando a few years ago. Full Story

The first excerpt from JK Rowling’s History of Magic in North America was posted yesterday, and it focused on Native American wizards. As a half-Oglala Lakota kid who grew up searching for any signs of my culture that wasn’t a mascot, I almost cried reading it. The world of Harry Potter has been uniquely European and primarily British, but now that world is expanding outward and embracing other traditions and cultures. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

I can’t wait until tonight. JK Rowling’s giving us a bedtime story tonight. By the time you read this, it will be past 2pm GMT and the first installment of the History of Magic in North America – basically a study guide ahead of the November release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them – will be published on Pottermore  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

It was announced yesterday that on July 31st, which is JK Rowling’s birthday and also Harry Potter’s birthday, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts I & II will be published, immediately following the stage production.

Relief.

Because when the announcement first came out last October, I was one of probably millions of whiney babies who moaned about not being able to get to London’s West End to see the play and whyyyyyy couldn’t it have been a book? Click here for a refresher.

Well now it is a book. NOT A NOVEL.

The story is set 19 years after the end of The Deathly Hallows. Like the Battle of Hogwarts, I’m assuming, and not the epilogue at King’s Cross. And the darkness, it comes back in unexpected places. Well of course it does. What’s life without some darkness, even for those who live among magic? So, basically, there is no happily ever after. There are just stretches of happiness balanced out by challenges. Sound familiar? That’s what good luck, bad luck, and feng shui is all about too!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

Everybody’s talking about the Oscar nominations. And some people are talking about how Tom Hardy has a nomination and is in two Oscar nominated Best Pictures. OK but Domhnall Gleeson doesn’t have a nomination but he’s in The Revenant, Brooklyn, Star Wars, and Ex Machina, all films that received Oscar nominations today. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Pretty excited about this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly with Eddie Redmayne on the cover as Newt Scamander in a feature about Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. At the same time, I’m not sure I want to read it.  Read Full Intro

My mind – and my heart – has already been blown today by Adele. I don’t know how much more stimulation I can take… A message has appeared on Pottermore about the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Up to this point, we weren’t sure what this was all about. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Have you read the new Harry Potter family history on Pottermore yet? JK Rowling included the fresh piece along with a site update. We find out that “Potter” is shortened from “Potterer”, why Harry’s family was so rich, that the Potter men have always had unruly hair, and why the Invisibility Cloak was passed down to him.  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

Today is September 1. Do you know what that means? There’s a train waiting for us at King’s Cross Station. Time to head back to Hogwarts. You know who’s going to Hogwarts for the first time this year? James Sirius Black.  Read Full Intro

It will hurt me if you say you have no idea who Sirius Black is. As you know, Ben Affleck spent his birthday last weekend at Harry Potter World with his family. Which, presumably, is where he got his new t-shirt. Good choice. Sirius is one of the most beloved characters created by JK Rowling. Full Story
