Every day, if you want to shoot arrivals at the Palais, "les marches", the famous red steps in Cannes, you have to go present your credentials at the press office at 10am to be entered into a lottery. You then return at 3pm to see if your outlet was selected. Spots are limited. For prime premieres, like Pirates of the Caribbean, it's really just the luck of the draw. Full Story

SJP in Cannes

It was her first time at the Festival. This didn't seem possible. Sarah Jessica Parker was in Cannes with The Weinstein Company to do some advance promotion and sweet-talk some money people for her upcoming film I Don't Know How She Does It, based on the book of the same name. She told me she's never read a stronger screenplay. Full Story

For those of you who are new to the site, here's how it works on a junket: they put you in a waiting area, you are on rotation to interview the talent, you make your rounds from room to room until each one is checked off the list. You only move when summoned. There is an order about the process. At the Kung Fu Panda 2 junket last week, the attending talent included Dustin Hoffman, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, Jack Black, and Angelina Jolie. Full Story

Missing Jon Hamm in Cannes

I'm sorry, I was so caught up with Johnny Depp and the Pirates 4 press day on Saturday I actually missed out on Jon Hamm. Are we fighting? No, we're not. Because I know I deserved to be yelled at. Sometimes they just stack so many things at the same time, you have to make a choice. And on our show, we had to shoot Johnny. Full Story

The Future?

Maybe that's a little melodramatic. But it's what I was thinking of seeing the two of them, Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain yesterday in Cannes. Mia, as you know, is currently one of the most well regarded young actors of this generation. She's exquisite, and she's SO talented, and so many people know it already and she keeps working and working and working. Full Story

Rachel's carpet pants

For the second night in a row, Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen walked the carpet in Cannes together as a couple. They are super, super cute together. I like the way he looks at her. Anyway, apparently her figure skating dress from the night before was Marchesa. Of course. Last night though she threw on some pants. Full Story

Just for the carpet

Dylan and I were at the Martinez yesterday just before the first carpet at Cannes to cover a women in film panel discussion by the New York Times. When we arrived, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson had just come down, ready to head to the carpet. Her dress is actually better in person. It doesn't look so wet and clingy. Full Story

Pale Dress, Pale Skin

As mentioned earlier, Angelina Jolie and the cast of Kung Fu Panda, including Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman, were at the Palais today for a presser and a photo call. Dylan and I saw Jack Black in Old Cannes last night walking up St Antoine to have dinner. The stars don't usually roll like that here. Full Story

Rachel by day and with her man by night

There's only one carpet at Cannes on opening night. Most nights we see two. I'm also writing from a weird French keyboard in the press room and it's infuriating me. But this is not your concern. This post is about Rachel McAdams and her big Cannes debut. She was the starlet today, for sure. Full Story

Previewing the field at Cannes 2011

Written by Sarah I just had an email throw down with my brother over Adrien Brody and Ryan Gosling at Cannes 2010. If you don’t remember, this was that doucheface Brody at Cannes last year, and this Full Story

Seeing Salma

If I were Salma Hayek, I don't think I'd be able to stop looking at myself all day. She's a goddess in person. Like totally, totally flawless. As mentioned earlier, Salma and Antonio Banderas are in Cannes previewing Puss in Boots. There was a display of sorts at the Carlton pier and then a huge row of press - I was among them - afterwards. Full Story

Arriving in Cannes

So… A quick travel update: I’m at Heathrow. My flight was delayed over an hour in Vancouver which means I missed my connection to Nice, and now I have to wait 5 hours to get on the next one. Here’s a question if you work for an airline, and I’m not being facetious: Why do you board people on the plane only to hold them there while you fix the mechanical problem? I’m down with spending as much time as you need fixing the mechanical problem, but in this case, the captain said they knew about the mechanical problem when the aircraft arrived in Vancouver earlier that day. Full Story
