Hi Duana, I'm not due until around Christmas, and my partner and I are still early in the baby name game (i.e. we're still pretty far apart on our choices). However, we have started thinking a lot about what the baby is going to call the grandparents. My partner's parents already have grandkids so we'll probably stick with the titles they use (nan and granddad), but this will be the first grandchild for my parents. Full Article

Hi Duana! Please help! My sister's first child (a boy) is due in early August and she wanted me to write to you because they are not even close to finding a name! We are Persian and both my sister and I and my two daughters have flower names (in Persian and English). However, for a boy, all we came up with is Forest. Full Article

Hi Duana We are pregnant, and while I would love to find out the gender ASAP hubby would love it to be a surprise until birth, so I will do that for him. I figure between conceding that PLUS giving birth he will owe me big time!  We are lucky to have agreed on both a girl's name *and* boy's name. Full Article

Hi! Husband and I are due late August with our first babe, we are waiting to find out the sex. We are set on a girls name, his grandma that he was very close to was named Maria, and everyone called her Mika. So we are set on Mika for a girl. My middle name is Marie, and my grandma's name is Rose-Marie, so originally I was thinking Marie for a middle name. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm a trans woman in the process of transitioning. I'm trying to work out a name that starts with E or L (though not opposed to others!). I also have an interesting surname (Winter) that makes things difficult. I also want to shy away from more masculine names, and I like names that have a more feminine ring to them, such as names with the -ia sound. Full Article

Hi Duana This may be an unusual request in that we've already picked both of our names. My boyfriend and I ended on a stellar boy name after some dicey negotiating that included a serious bid from him for Hedwig (for a boy...). The girl name was much easier. My family has this awesome tradition of passing down maternal names. Full Article

Hi, My husband and I are hoping that we will be the beneficiaries of your name-nerd advice. We are expecting our second little one on August 8, 2015. We’re Asian and we somehow stumbled into a very lucky due-date! We don’t know if Baby #2 is going to be a boy or a girl. Our first child is a little boy who will be close to turning three. Full Article

Hi Duana - The time has come when I need your naming skills!  My husband and I are expecting baby #2, a girl, beginning of July and we're struggling to find a name we both like. We love our first daughter's name - Summer Olivia - it's different but not "weird," and the first name isn't very common. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm due July 8 with my second girl. My first daughter's name is Quinn and we decided on that name fairly early with little discussion of other names. I'm having a heck of a time coming up with a name for baby #2 and my husband is no help at all. I want a name that "goes" with Quinn (which means that it probably can't be too feminine) but I don't want anything too "out there. Full Article

Dear Duana, I am expecting girl #3 and having trouble settling on a name. Our older daughter is Chora, and our younger is Edith ("Edie"). We want to name our daughter after a female figure she can admire. For us that means someone courageous and whose courage is tied to her faith (for us, Catholic or more broadly Christian). Full Article

Hi Duana, I would really appreciate your advice! Our first boy is due this summer and while my husband and I have agreed on a name, which I suggested and love, I'm having some worries about it. We live in a very ethnically un-diverse community. Most everyone in our town has an English or Irish surname. Full Article

One of the many, many things I love about this column and all of you who contribute is that it is so unabashedly a sociology exercise. We discuss names, and sooner or later those names apply to someone – and you can’t not react.  I knew that there would be people mad because I didn’t like certain names. Full Article

Hi Duana - Our family is expecting the addition of a baby boy the beginning of July. He is eagerly awaited by a big brother Rocco and big sister Tessa. We have a single syllable Chinese last name. You can see that we lie somewhere in the middle of quirky and traditional as far as naming goes. Full Article
