Scarlett & Smulders: the lady Avengers

This is exactly why I don’t understand all red on a red carpet: it’s indistinguishable. And it’s really too bad for lovely Cobie who is also being disadvantaged by some terrible styling. I hate what they’ve done with her hair. You know why? At quick glance, she reminded me of Sean Young. In no world, whatsoever, is being reminded of Sean Young a compliment. Cobie Smulders deserves better. I interviewed her last week at the junket and she couldn’t be sweeter and more humble about this opportunity and, sh-t, in person she is spectacularly beautiful.
But on this night, at least to me, it was Scarlett who owned the carpet. Are we fighting? We are probably fighting. It’s not a dress that would be universally appealing, especially that apron peplum whatever it is that it’s called. Yeah, I’d rather it be ripped off too because I do love those competing patterns. But even that isn’t enough to overcome the crown braid - which I’ve always wanted to try - and the great job they did on the makeup, and how all of it goes together with her bare shoulders and a strapless cut that sits so nicely across her chest. It’s Scarlett’s best showing in a while. And just in time for a box office triumph too. I’ll have more to say in my review next week but Scarjo’s Black Widow actually doesn’t suck. You can credit Joss Whedon for that.
