Hi Hayley, Recently I had the opportunity to use a "bod pod," which assessed my body fat %/age. A quick summary: I'm 30, 5'10" and weigh 156 (that goes as high as 160 on any given day depending on what I've eaten or drank, but not usually any lower than 156). I work out 4-5 times a week, usually with cardio (straight jogging 3-5 miles or doing intervals on the treadmill) and doing intermittent lifting/hiit stuff (on my own, not with a trainer). Full Article

Dear Hayley Last September I ran my second race ever and first half marathon (a huge deal for me because I began running last February and I never thought I´d be able to do the 21 km distance). Unfortunately, four weeks after the race I had a serious bike accident and broke a vertebrae. Full Article

Hi Hayley! I've been pretty active and working on my health for probably the last six years — since my first year of university. I've gotten to a weight I'm happy with, and I'm not so much worried about weight loss than my shape and tone, but sometimes I feel like if I do too much cardio with running or spinning, my muscle percentage suffers. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I’m wondering about making the most of a silver lining. I got sick while travelling and picked up a particularly nasty bug that hung on for two weeks. Now that I’m finally out of the woods with being ill/treatment I've discovered one benefit – I've finally lost about 10 pounds that had been haunting me. Full Article

Well, it is the first week of the New Year and I would not be surprised if most of you reading this have set a New Year’s resolution that involves some sort of weight loss or fitness gain. You are lugging your gym clothes to work, packing your lunch bag full of veggies and lean protein and you have vowed to stay away from anything with sugar in it. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I cannot do a pushup on my toes and I don't think I'm alone. I am a fit person that exercises 5-6 times a week with a combination of weight lifting, running (easy, speed work, hills, tempo, and long runs), and swimming. I am not a petite person (5'10" 175lbs) but this shouldn't stop me from being able to do great pushups. Full Article

Hi Hayley.  I'm a grazer, I don't eat a lot at one meal, but I'm constantly eating little bits.  An hour or two after a pretty healthy dinner, I'm hungry again.  I know that eating before bedtime isn't great for you, and usually I'm on track calorie wise until then, but then it's all over and I end up eating ice cream or a big bowl of sugary cereal. Full Article

It is that time of year again where we start thinking about what we are going to get the fitness-obsessed friend, sister or girlfriend (ladies, pass this article along to your partners) in our lives for Christmas. In the world of health and wellness there is always a new fad attempting to tell you that if you do a particular exercise, or eat a certain supplement, or cut a specific item out of your diet, all of your weight loss struggles will be solved.    The problem with the fitness industry is everyone is trying to make a dollar or two, and if they can convince you that their product or their way is the best, then perhaps you will convince all of your friends the same thing and then they will convince all of their friends as well. Full Article

It is that time of year again, when holiday themed coffees are everywhere. I know I look forward to my local coffee shop becoming decorated for the festive season, but it seems each year this happens earlier and earlier, and with my peppermint latte addiction, I need to be careful. I am never one to tell you not to have anything or to deprive yourself of your favourites treats, but moderation is key and I preach time and time again that you CAN have it all, just NOT all the time. Full Article

Hello Hayley, How do you feel about pedometers? I would like to invest in a good one but I am on a budget. L ___ I am a pretty simple person and the only technology I have in my life is a smart phone, an apple TV and a laptop. I have never been into strava, or Garmin or other forms of GPS monitoring and I don’t have a cadence meter or speedometer on my bike. Full Article

Dear Hayley, I'm 27 and for a long time, I was a yo-yo dieter. I struggled with binge eating, and would also go through long stretches where I'd become obsessed with eating healthy and exercising and would lose 25 pounds. And then gain it all back a few months later. A year and a half ago I lost 15 pounds and 2 dress sizes by lifting and eating healthy. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Foam rolling

Hi Hayley! I recently started jogging. I am, very much, the definition of a couch potato. I was never an active child, and I've spent years of my adult life alternating between a very sedentary lifestyle and taking up certain activities just to get bored with them after a few months. But now I've realized that at my age (late 30s) I need to make an effort, and certain lifestyle changes (becoming a freelancer and being able to set my own schedule, for example) and wake-up calls (sick relatives, realizing that looking young for my age just gives me an excuse to not change bad habits) have motivated me to make healthier choices and adhere to them. Full Article
