My gym has a digital scale which measures, among other things, body fat and muscle percentage. I'm not driven by the scale, but each January I use its recordings as an assessment and benchmark. I had modest expectations for this year's reading: I increased my gym trips (from 3 to 4-6x/week), lifted heavier weights, completed two distance running clinics and added (admittedly irregular) yoga and Pilates. Full Article

Hayley, In July of last year, after being severely overweight all my life and tipping the scales to the "morbidly obese" side thanks to the BMI calculator (I was 5'1" and 225 pounds, for reference) I decided to finally do something about it and really changed my diet and exercise habits. Full Article

Hayley, Thank you for all your posts, especially the last two! They both hit home. I have been struggling with setting goals for the next year because I find myself in a plateau stage. At the end of 2012 I was in a major road accident, run over by a truck while cycling. I had a severe pelvic fracture which left me in a wheel chair for three months. Full Article

A new year brings a fresh start and it always seems to pack the gyms with people trying to make this the year that they get themselves into shape. But why is it, year after year, that come the third week into January the treadmills, spin bikes and free weights are all sitting unused? Last year I wrote about this amazing t-shirt bra the changed my life. It was the perfect bra for those of us who are small busted but still very broad and can never find a bra that fits properly. Hi Hayley, Last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. What followed was a year focused on getting the right medication levels and dealing with the idea that my body is attacking itself. Hi Hayley I started running this past spring and wouldn’t you know it, it’s much more enjoyable outdoors than being stuck on a treadmill. My question for you is how do I transition from a wonderful outdoor summer running experience to a brutally cold (Edmonton) winter one? As you may know our winters can last a few months longer than the rest of the country and in the past we’ve had month long cold snaps of -30 (though I’m keeping my fingers crossed we won’t have that problem this year) so what kind of gear would you suggest to keep myself from getting frost bite, and skating along the trails instead of running? I thought she looked awesome at the CMAs and she's got a great fit look without the thick thighs that you can sometimes see when you build up those muscles.
