Matt Damon is in Berlin this week continuing to work on the new Bourne and, seemingly, staying away from awards campaigning. Which certainly makes him look a lot less hungry for it than, say, Leonardo DiCaprio. But considering that there might be a 6th man out in the Best Actor race, I do wish he'd step on it a little, just so Leo doesn't walk away with it like it's belonged to him the entire time. Full Story

Matt Damon continues to work on the new Bourne movie in London. Do we have a title for this yet? I don’t think we have a title yet. They’re calling it Bourne 5 for now. Whatever it will eventually be labelled, Jason Bourne looks pissed. This is pretty much all I want to say about these photos – that Matt Damon as Jason Bourne is angry. Full Story

So many films did not meet critical and box office expectations this season. The Martian, however, delivered. You might say it over-delivered. Three months ago, no one was calling it an Oscar frontrunner. Now? The Martian is Ridley Scott’s most well-reviewed film. And it’s on track to make more money than Gladiator. Full Story

The last time we talked about Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s HBO revival of Project Greenlight, it was about #mattsplaining and Damon’s dumb remarks about diversity hiring on a film set, which he directed at Effie Brown, an African-American producer. Full Story

The Martian won the box office this weekend with a $55 million debut on strong reviews, reaffirming Matt Damon’s movie star power and popularity and lifting the Mars curse. The numbers also improve The Martian’s Oscar chances at being included among the 10 possible Best Picture candidates, just like Gravity. Full Story

The Martian comes out tomorrow. Variety reports that it’s been outselling Gravity in advance tickets. Some are projecting an opening weekend box office in the low $40s and others are thinking it might go all the way into the $50s. Oh and NASA told us they found water or something on Mars this weekend. Full Story

Matt Damon’s career in 8 minutes

Matt Damon was on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night acting out his career in 8 minutes. They opened with Good Will Hunting which, I mean, I understand, you want to open strong. But I would have moved Bourne up to the top and maybe ended with “apples”, although I’m wondering if it was more a logistical set decision and not editorial because of that sliding glass screen. Full Story

The cast of The Martian, led by Matt Damon, was in London tonight for the UK premiere. So far the reviews for The Martian have been quite strong. Sarah saw it at TIFF and liked it a lot and Sarah’s hard to please. But when I saw her after the screening, she wasn’t angry at all about spending two hours in the theatre watching it. Full Story

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck used to have a show called Project Greenlight, in which they and a panel of filmmakers chose a script and a director and set them loose with a small budget to make a movie. It aired three seasons on Bravo from 2001-2005, and the only movie I remember from it is the hilariously bad horror movie, Feast. Full Story

The last time I outright enjoyed a Ridley Scott movie, no reservations, no qualifications or conditions, was American Gangster in 2007. Since then he’s given us Grimdark Robin Hood, the space-magic bullsh*t of Prometheus, and the super messy but ambitious The Counselor, plus some other stuff no one cares about (AHEM EXODUS). Full Story

The Martian premieres tonight at TIFF. Sarah saw it today but she’s got four films on her schedule so her review for it will be posted on Monday. Her review for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Demolition is coming up soon. Ahead of the gala, Matt Damon and the cast of The Martian were at the Lightbox for the press conference this afternoon. Full Story
