The Age of Adaline, Blake Lively’s new movie, has its first trailer and it looks like a hybrid of Winter’s Tale and Benjamin Button, with special effects straight from The CW. It’s about Adaline, who defeats time in a car accident and stops aging as a prize, then has to watch her family grow old as she remains forever Blake Lively. Full Story

Cinderella doesn’t look terrible

The fairytale trend in movies has been more miss than hit, by a pretty wide margin. Maleficent was okay, but if it weren’t for Dame Angelina, it would not have been even half so tolerable, but there hasn’t been a really great—or even just whole-heartedly good—fairytale movie yet. Full Story

When I started to write this article I wrote that I had last written about The DUFF in the summer. Turns out I’m wrong – it was only October 8th. It seems like much longer ago. Maybe because I’ve been trying to fight my way through the book since then. Full Story

Bone structure on the cover of Variety

Angelina Jolie, Jack O’Connell, and Miyavi cover the new issue of Variety in support of Unbroken. You know how this worked, right? Variety would for sure have been happy with just Jolie. You can’t go wrong with just Jolie. Did Jolie tell them she wanted to be centred by her two stars? It’s a compelling photo to begin with in that blue-ish light. Full Story

Sophie Hunter accompanied Benedict Cumberbatch last night at the NY premiere of The Imitation Game. Just yesterday on Good Morning America he was not very forthcoming with questions about his engagement. And then, come night, there she is. Their very first official public appearance after the proposal… And right in the heat of a Best Actor Oscar race. Full Story

I updated the Rachel McAdams article from earlier with some new information – click here to read it. Not that that has anything to do with Jake Gyllenhaal. But it SHOULD. And it COULD. Because, well, go read the post. Anyway, here’s Jake Gyllenhaal in New York today at a press preview for Constellations. Full Story

Last night was the Hollywood premiere of Mockingjay Part 1. I’ve not read any stories about Chris Martin being there, have you? Let me know. Because a couple of weeks ago the Daily Mail was saying that he was going to show up and be with Jennifer Lawrence at the after-party. Full Story

I read a book earlier this year called The Confidence Code: The Science And Art Of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. If you haven’t already, you should definitely pick it up. Not because I want you to agree, or disagree, but because it promotes productive discussion on how female confidence is built and broken, and what the possible outcomes could be if we tweaked our perspective on the female experience ranging from school participation to sport activities to the workplace. Full Story

It was Rachel McAdams’s birthday yesterday. She’s 36. She’s shooting a movie around Toronto right now. Here she is on set walking from trailer to trailer in costume. It’s FREEZING in Toronto right now. I can’t imagine the no socks situation was all that comfortable. Anyway, the crew apparently gave Rachel flowers. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

It happened.

There’s now an award show that is officially more of a joke than the People’s Choice Awards, with less integrity than the Golden Globes. I know. It didn’t seem possible. But with its first live telecast on Friday, the Hollywood Film Awards demonstrated to everyone how f-cking meaningless it is to win one.

Did you know that the Hollywood Film Awards honoured Django Unchained two years ago with the Best Screenplay Award several weeks before the movie was even released and while Tarantino was still editing it? Click here for more background. No one really knows how the award recipients get decided, except that some really rich guy pays for everything, but no one wants to openly offend the really rich guy either so everyone just shows up and pretends it’s a big deal but, really, it’s not a big deal at all.  Read Full Intro

Keira’s playing too

Keira Knightley went full angel at the Hollywood Film Awards in an exquisite Giambattista Valli dress. That applique around the neck and down one arm is pure gorgessity and, God, I love the sleeves. Not even those sh-tty shoes could take away from it. So they gave her the Best Supporting Actress Award. Full Story

Jennifer Aniston was in New York last night for a special screening of Cake presented by The Cinema Society and InStyle, scheduled between promotional appearances for Horrible Bosses 2 which opens in 10 days. As we’ve been discussing, repeatedly, at this point, an Oscar nomination is unlikely. Full Story

Hands-free Alexander Skarsgard

Alexander Skarsgard was photographed hands-free on Saturday at a gas station in Hollywood. This hands-free gas pumping thing is like Bigfoot to me. I’ve been driving for 25 years (f-ck me, I’m old) and I’ve never, ever, ever found a hands-free pump. Is it an American thing? Jacek and I talked about it this morning when he was driving me to work. Full Story
