Xavier Dolan's duelling enfant terrible and wunderkind personas have become his trademark, often overshadowing his immense talent. Remember, this 25-year-old won the Cannes Jury Prize for his fifth film, Mommy, in May, but barely eight months earlier, he bit back at an unflattering review in The Hollywood Reporter, tweeting, "kiss my narcissistic ass. Full Story

Dear Gossips

"For me, it's not about a country or a province or old dilemmas or wars — that, my generation doesn't associate with or relate with anymore, by the way. It would just be an extraordinary message to the people my age and to my generation." – Xavier Dolan on what it would mean if his film Mommy won the Palme d’Or. (Source)

His generation. He’s 25 years old. It’s a noble aspiration. I just don’t know if he has much company. I mean, he’s made five films, and all of them have been accepted at Cannes, and this time, his first time in competition, they’re saying he has a good chance at taking it all. Dear Gossips,

The Cannes Film Festival announced its lineup today featuring some strong Canadian representation from David Cronenberg, Atom Egoyan, and the darling Xavier Dolan. Jesus. He’s only 25 years old. And it seems like every year Dolan has a film for the festival. So incredibly productive. Dolan’s latest, Mommy, is screening in competition this time, his first time. I miss his glasses. I wonder if he’ll ever bring them back.

More on Cannes later this morning. But after over a year of absence, Ryan Gosling will be there. And it’s always a good show when he shows up on the Croisette, even though he skipped last year when Only God Forgives was part of the festival.

FYI on blog scheduling: it’s a holiday in Canada tomorrow and I will not be blogging.  Read Full Intro
