25 Years of Getting You to the Front Of The Line
My favourite concert of all time was Madonna’s Blonde Ambition. I was 16 years old. She was EVERYTHING. And, in particular, in Toronto, if you’ve seen Truth Or Dare, you know about the drama – would she be arrested or would she be muzzled? Or… because it’s Madonna…would she just do it more?
Blonde Ambition was training for so many of the artists you see today – from costuming to choreography, from dance moves to dancer selection. And then, on top of all that, on top of the bustiers and the cone bras and the ponytails and the pin curls, it was the songs. THE SONGS! Look at this set list!
Express Yourself (with Everybody)
Open Your Heart
Causing A Commotion
Where’s The Party?
Like A Virgin
Like A Prayer
Papa Don’t Preach (these three songs back to back to back is a moment in time, I’m telling you)
Sooner Or Later
Now I’m Following You
Into The Groove
Keep It Together
Come on! Think about those 6 songs, ending a show on those 6 songs. Can you imagine the hype? This catalogue, live, and you still know every single word.
God I wish she’d just do it all over again, like next year, for the 25 year anniversary – Blonde Ambition 2015, all the same songs, new arrangements and choreography if she really wants to, I don’t care. Just … it’s been 25 years since she’s put together a set list like that, a set list with those kinds of hits.
This concert has stuck with me throughout my life, and I’m sure so many people have similar stories. Seeing great performances live is a big passion for people, and American Express’ Front Of The Line program has been giving people first hand access to their passion for music for 25 years. AMEX’s relationships with AEG Live, Ticketmaster, LiveNation, Mirvish, Massey Hall, and other partners give Cardmembers unparalleled access to the best concerts and inspiring events and experiences. This includes pre-sales and advanced ticket access, reserved allotment to the hottest sold out shows (apparently 50% of the attendees at Rogers Centre for One Direction were AMEX Cardmembers and their family!), exclusive line and Cardmember lounge access at key venues like the Molson Amphitheatre, Massey Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, and a ton of other benefits. And each year the program is expanding to include more concerts, more events, and more access.
