Dear Gossips,

Did you watch the Emmys?  Did you struggle with the unfamiliar feeling of the show wrapping up on time, two minutes before the end of the hour? Did you feel, like I did, that those two minutes might as well have been hours? We’ll dig all the way into the Emmys today, into what was kind of a quiet, offbeat show, but maybe not in the worst way?  As you know, it was a very tough weekend for Lainey and Jacek and Barney, and so they’re taking another day to rest and be together and keep on remembering how much they loved Marcus.  Read Full Intro

I have this bad feeling about what happened to Amy Poehler. Sarah and Maria have had various takes on the concept of people who win over and over again, and I pointed out that Claire Danes has nomination ennui.  But Amy – Amy is not the same as some of those people. For example, she’s got a million jobs. Full Story

The trailer for Sisters is out, and I want to write about it fast because soon the Emmy nominations will be all we can care about. But, after you watch, jockey with your friends for who’s watching it with whom and cackle over the shot of the…is that a clarinet? When you’re done with that, let’s talk about the Important Friendship of it all. Full Story

Welcome to The First Day of Camp

Sarah Posted by Sarah at July 3, 2015 14:21:32 July 3, 2015 14:21:32

Wet Hot American Summer is a modern comedy classic, and by the rules of contemporary cinema, since it’s fourteen years old, it’s old enough for nostalgia. And you know what nostalgia means—it’s time for a sequel/remake/reboot! Or rather, it’s time for a prequel TV show premiering on Netflix on July 31, titled Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp. Full Story

At one point in Inside Out, Pixar’s latest after a two year hiatus, the anthropomorphized emotions inside a little girl’s head spill boxes of fact and opinions and, unable to tell them apart, jumble them up while putting them back. “Don’t worry,” says the little girl’s imaginary friend, “it happens all the time. Full Story

Inside Out was beloved in Cannes. Like unanimously praised. Pixar has made a movie about what it’s like to be inside a young girl’s head. Pixar has made a movie about mental health. Pixar has made a movie that encourages young people to talk about their feelings. Pixar has a made a movie that stars two women, Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling. Full Story

Since I just pissed you off with those Gerard Butler pictures in the previous post, let me make it up to you. These are photos that, guaranteed, no one will object to. Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Tina Fey all together last night at the Steve Martin AFI Lifetime Award tribute gala. Well, obviously, that was the best table, non? Still 6 months to go before we see all of them in their movie, Sisters, opening in December. Full Story

At the Inside Out photo call and presser in Cannes today. Hitfix is calling it one of Pixar’s “most creative films ever”. This is high concept, this is smart humour, and at the same time, totally universal. The reviews so far have been very, very strong. Full Story

Like Saturday Night Live itself, the 40th anniversary celebration show was a mixed bag. Here’s everything that was good. Andy Samberg’s digital short Because they are ALWAYS good, but this one, sung with Adam Sandler featuring an assist from Chris Parnell, highlighted the history of character breaks on the show. Full Story

Coming off Amy Poehler’s last year as co-host of the Golden Globes, I keep reminding myself that Parks And Recreation is in its final run, and I need to set my PVR. I have watched the show since the first season, when Leslie Knope was just a female Michael Scott and the entire storyline revolved around the creation of one park. Full Story

Well yeah. Of course there wasn’t enough of them, either of them. And of course, Tina Fey’s first dress made me want to dig through their castoff pile to see what she should have worn instead, although I liked Amy in Clinton Blue on the red carpet. (Lainey: I did not.) The thing with these two is they knew they were out after this year, so they had to accomplish specific things. Full Story
