So many films did not meet critical and box office expectations this season. The Martian, however, delivered. You might say it over-delivered. Three months ago, no one was calling it an Oscar frontrunner. Now? The Martian is Ridley Scott’s most well-reviewed film. And it’s on track to make more money than Gladiator. Full Story

Bryan Cranston is so charming. It’s his Tim Whatley smile. It’s his slick delivery. Bryan was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night to promote Trumbo, which comes out this week. I reviewed Trumbo at TIFF and wrote that while Bryan played a sly smooth-talking screenwriter as well as he could have, the film was too superficial to be the communist/Cold War caper it was meant to be. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio, Badass has arrived, in the form of his first one-on-one interview about The Revenant. His feral press tour kicked off this week with Yahoo! - that’s where Leo explains why he grew that thing on his face for months and the many, many challenges he’s willing to take on for his craft and — for those reading between the lines — what could become his first Oscar win. Full Story

Sarah and I were exchanging emails the other night about Star Wars after the trailer dropped and the internet got broken because people were trying to buy advance tickets. She was saying how Star Wars is going to basically kill everything else at the box office at Christmas and that there’s no point in counter-programming because, in her words, “I don't think counter programming is going to work when the movie you're programming against is one literally EVERYONE wants to see”. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio is already being considered a frontrunner for Best Actor Oscar even though The Revenant is still two months from release. And while he would never want you to think that he really, really, really wants it, nor would he want you to see that he’ll campaign as much as he can to get it… you know, we know. Full Story

Was just talking about Eddie Redmayne in the Brie Larson post earlier. And here he is. Well, here he was a couple of weeks ago (these photos are from September 26 but for some reason just released now) in London with his wife Hannah apparently house hunting. If they find something I’m not sure they’re really going to be able to spend all that much time there until next year. Full Story

Check out Brie Larson at the premiere of Room in LA last night. The film opens in limited release this weekend and then everywhere else the first weekend of November. Room has a shot at a Best Picture nomination. It won the People’s Choice Award at TIFF. And right now, Brie Larson looks like she’ll be one of the five names called out to contend for Best Actress Oscar. Full Story

I wrote about Jake Gyllenhaal’s height investigation on Starlee Kine’s Mystery Show back in June. Click here for a refresher. He was soooo f-cking cute on that phone call. It was the giggling, it was playfulness, it was practically phone sex in my mind. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio spent the weekend in New York. On Sunday he was papped walking down the street with current bonafide, Kelly Rohrbach. He made no attempt to cover his face. He didn’t run around looking for a trash bin to jump into to avoid being photographed. Instead, he just kept walking with his turned out feet and his hippy gait (he’s a hip-swinger), and holding her hand, smiling. Full Story
