Two week ago, it was announced that Jennifer Aniston’s Cake, despite screening at TIFF not securing a distributor, would be released in limited run for Oscar qualification by a new company formed by the producers and rumoured to be backed by Aniston herself. She’s already got good odds on a Supporting Actress nomination with Interstellar, but some Oscar prognosticators think she’s better and more worthy in Violent Year. Full Story

Angelina Jolie. Vanity Fair. God. Those eyes. THAT FACE. The Jolie was photographed for the December issue by Mario Testino. This, of course, is for Unbroken, opening at Christmas and expected to contend for Oscar. They’ve been expecting it to contend for Oscar for a year now. On Saturday Deadline held “The Contenders” at the Directors Guild of America, a day-long symposium in which every distributor with Oscar hopes presented their award season wares, and many actors and filmmakers showed up to hustle. Most of the actors who showed up have outside chances at best, like newly-minted superhero Chadwick Boseman, who’s got a little buzz going for the James Brown biopic, Get On Up, and Shailene Woodley, who’s hoping to score a Best Actress nomination for The Fault In Our Stars. Full Story

Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr were honoured last night at the Britannia Awards in LA. Mark was presented with the Humanitarian Award for his work in advocating for clean water. Because, yes, he’s the best. Always. Even Dame Judi Dench thinks so. RDJ received the Stanley Kubrick Britannia For Excellence In Film. Full Story
