The Hollywood Film Awards are about as significant as the People’s Choice Awards which is to say, not significant at all. The difference though is that, somehow, the Hollywood Film Awards actually attract talent and not just the cast of Big Bang Theory. We’ve been hearing over and over again that this year’s Best Actress Oscar race is the most competitive it’s been in a while, much more competitive than Best Actor. We’ve been hearing over and over again that Emma Stone (La La Land) is currently the frontrunner, with Natalie Portman (Jackie) making moves and, perhaps, Annette Bening (20th Century Women) possibly spoiling them both. Full Story

Sorry. That’s a cheese f-ck title. But once it was stuck in my head I couldn’t think of anything else. Loving opens next week. The film has already received strong reviews. Oscar experts are predicting that Loving will be nominated for Best Picture and that Ruth Negga Full Story

Sight unseen, Annette Bening was hailed as a Best Actress contender (and possible frontrunner) for her work in 20th Century Women, which premiered on Saturday at the New York Film Festival. The same hype followed Viola Davis for her work in Fences, and coincidentally, the trailers for both of these films dropped on the same day last month Full Story

Kit Harington scored his first Emmy nomination this year, for the “Battle of the Bastards” episode of Game of Thrones, and so he’s doing some campaigning, including talking to The Hollywood Reporter about his nomination and the way Jon Snow changed in season six. Full Story
