Well now this race is all over the place. The National Board of Review just announced its list and Best Picture went to… Spike Jonzes’s Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix and featuring Scarlett Johansson’s voice. Apparently Scarjo’s work in this film is so wonderful, there are those who believe she should be nominated for an acting award even though she doesn’t actually appear onscreen. Full Story

The New York Film Critics Circle just named Jared Leto Best Supporting Actor for his work in Dallas Buyers Club. It’s almost a given now that he’ll receive an Oscar nomination. Right now, a lot of experts predict he could actually take it, especially since Michael Fassbender is refusing to campaign. Full Story

George Clooney covers the new issue of W. I LOVE this photo shoot. I love that he was willing to play. Could you see Leonardo DiCaprio agreeing to this? George discusses a variety of subjects ranging from Hitler to art to how movie endings these days have become so… banal. The Chinese in me agrees. Full Story

Meryl Streep has been largely absent from promotion for August: Osage County. She’s been shooting movies, busy, and hustling on carpets and at parties isn’t usually her thing, although once in a while, if Harvey Weinstein nags at her hard enough, she’ll oblige. That said, the Academy has been very kind to Meryl Streep. Full Story

I LOVE it when Brad Pitt and George Clooney are together in a bro down situation. It’s been a while. George is allergic to commitment and children. So I guess he doesn’t really hang at the Brange compound too much. Still, it would be nice to see them on a carpet together again, all Oceans and cool, the most popular boys in school. Full Story

I wonder if they get sick of seeing their own movie. Even if they love that movie. Even if it’s the passion project of a lifetime, I wonder if there isn’t a little fatigue about it, especially when we’re coming up on a year of promoting it. Like, everywhere.
