Still 5 weeks to go before Leonardo DiCaprio collects his first Oscar for his performance in The Revenant. He’s been in Europe this week promoting the film. It’s kinda like an advance victory tour. Leo was honoured in Davos yesterday at the Annual Crystal Awards to open the World Economic Forum. Full Story

It’s done. Leonardo DiCaprio will win his first Oscar for being cold and snotty in The Revenant. By now his lead is pretty much insurmountable and, as Sarah noted a couple of weeks ago, the voters probably just want to get it over with so he stops trying to kill himself Full Story

Rachel McAdams was the only Spotlight cast member present at the Critics’ Choice Awards last night and spoke on behalf of the cast when it was named Best Acting Ensemble. “Our cast” is what she said, which is the way it should be said. Once again, just as it was at the Golden Globes, Rachel was joined at the event by Sacha Pfeiffer. Full Story

Jennifer Aniston: Worst Critics’ Choice

How about a wayback throwback even though it’s not Wednesday or Thursday? Last year at the Critics’ Choice Awards, fresh off not being nominated for an Oscar, even after hiring an Oscar consultant and campaigning valiantly by wearing her hair up and going “serious”, Jennifer Aniston showed up at Critics’ Choice in a pantsuit, no bra, and a body chain. Full Story

We’re preparing ourselves for the inevitability of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar win, right? There’s always a chance that Bryan Cranston’s Trumbo hustle could pay off, or that Michael Fassbender will get off his ass and decide to participate and upset Leo, but I think we’re all resigned to “Academy Award Winner Leonardo DiCaprio” being his new official title. Full Story

Rachel McAdams was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar this morning. TwiHards were hoping that Kristen Stewart would get in there, given that several critics associations singled her out and it was great to see her out there, hustling for it. But she was always going to be a dark horse. As I wrote last week – click here Full Story

So Saoirse Ronan grabs an Oscar nomination, which is not really a surprise, given that the buzz about Brooklyn has been huge, and that she’s a great actress. Remember, it’s not even her first nomination – that was for Atonement, back in 2008. What was a surprise was getting an amazing email yesterday from Aisling (ASHling), telling me that some in Ireland are beginning to accuse Saoirse of ‘Irishing-up’ her accent and general persona as she did North American press. Full Story

Well, my one prediction was wrong. Young Jacob Tremblay was not nominated for an Oscar. But he is in an Oscar nominated film, Room. There will be 8 films competing for Best Picture this year at the Oscars. So the nominations were just announced. We’ll be splitting up the analysis into a few different posts. Full Story

It has been so satisfying to watch Leonardo DiCaprio go for this Oscar. Because Leo wasn’t supposed to be the one with so much Try. Leo wasn’t supposed to be the one who was desperate for it. Leo was the one who just worked for the work, you know? Art for art’s sake. And when he eventually did win his Oscar, it would just…happen. Full Story

Leo is sensitive to the “persecuted” woman

This morning Parade posted their new interview with Leonardo DiCaprio. The Revenant (Struggler) opens in wide release today. Leo talks a lot about his work as an environmental activist and humanitarian and how he feels a moral obligation to do more with his platform, because otherwise greed will win: Parade: You’re famous and rich, you can have all the women you want, do whatever you like, and instead you decide you’re going to concern yourself about the fires killing orangutans in Indonesia. Full Story
