Well, my one prediction was wrong. Young Jacob Tremblay was not nominated for an Oscar. But he is in an Oscar nominated film, Room. There will be 8 films competing for Best Picture this year at the Oscars. So the nominations were just announced. We’ll be splitting up the analysis into a few different posts. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Jacob Tremblay, from Room. And also from Vancouver. I miss you every day, Vancouver. Anyway, Jacob’s dad was trending during the Golden Globes the other night, did you hear about this? Click here  Read Full Intro

Leo & the baby dangle

It has been so satisfying to watch Leonardo DiCaprio go for this Oscar. Because Leo wasn’t supposed to be the one with so much Try. Leo wasn’t supposed to be the one who was desperate for it. Leo was the one who just worked for the work, you know? Art for art’s sake. And when he eventually did win his Oscar, it would just…happen. Full Story

Leo is sensitive to the “persecuted” woman

This morning Parade posted their new interview with Leonardo DiCaprio. The Revenant (Struggler) opens in wide release today. Leo talks a lot about his work as an environmental activist and humanitarian and how he feels a moral obligation to do more with his platform, because otherwise greed will win: Parade: You’re famous and rich, you can have all the women you want, do whatever you like, and instead you decide you’re going to concern yourself about the fires killing orangutans in Indonesia. Full Story

BAFTA award nominations were announced today as the Academy nominations deadline nears. (Ballots are due at the end of the day.) Just as she was for the Golden Globes, Alicia Vikander has been nominated twice. She’s in the Best Actress category, proper, for her work in The Danish Girl, and in the Best Supporting Actress category for her work in Ex Machina. Full Story

It’s Golden Globes weekend. Michael B Jordan has not been nominated and Creed was not included in the film categories, its only nomination was for Sylvester Stallone as Best Supporting Actor – which will be one of the best speeches of the night if he wins, I promise you. MBJ is also not on the list of presenters either so there’s really no reason for him to go to the show. Full Story

That might be a little wishful thinking from Sarah and me. But… well… you decide. Matt Damon was in New York last night to accept the Best Actor Award from the National Board of Review. Earlier today, I posted about how he credited Sly Stallone for his career – click here Full Story

This is such a great Oscar year! We have a REAL race in ALL categories! Periodically Lainey and I will text one another something along the lines of “this is so exciting!” because for once the Oscars are wide open across the board. The only category that feels close to a done deal is Best Actor because it does feel like everyone is going to just roll over for Leonardo DiCaprio and finally give him an Oscar for freezing his eyelids shut in the Yukon (I spoke to one Academy voter who told me Leo D has his vote because “I’m afraid if he doesn’t get it this time, next time he’ll be hooking his nuts up to a car battery”). Full Story

Please tell me you’ve seen Creed. Creed was my favourite movie of 2015. It was on Sarah’s Top 10 of 2015 – click here if you missed that. And it was a box office success, honouring the Rocky franchise’s legacy and introducing it to a new generation. Full Story

Room co-stars Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay were at the National Board of Review awards last night in New York, both taking home trophies - Best Actress for her and Best Breakthrough Award for him, which he split with Beasts of No Nation's Abraham Attah, who flew in from Ghana. But Brie and Jacob also dominated this morning's headlines: Matt Damon & Sylvester Stallone Upstaged By Nine-Year-Old Jacob Tremblay – Deadline Full Story
