Intro for December 6, 2016
Grammy nominations. As I’ve been anticipating for a while now, it’s all about Beyoncé and Adele. As I’ve been hoping for a while now, would it be too much to wonder about that collaboration? All Night and Hello? With 9 nominations, Beyoncé is now the most nominated woman in Grammy history…although she’s never won the biggest prize, album of the year. She and Adele are up against Drake, Justin Bieber, and Sturgill Simpson in that category. More on the Grammys later.
In other Beyoncé news, whenever we talk about Beyoncé, which is not an infrequent occurrence, Duana always remembers a particular piece of footage from when Beyoncé was about 10 years old, rehearsing in the backyard, and Mathew Knowles is telling them that their moves are no good because they didn’t practise enough the day before when they went to an amusement park or something. It’s one of Duana’s favourite early Beyoncé clips because it shows you what that life was and how her life now has been shaped. The footage is hard to find, buried in some MTV documentary from the Destiny’s Child era. And of course you know now that most of Beyoncé’s early material is stored in that infamous personal archive/vault that she meticulously curates and deliberately releases on her own schedule.
But now…the Lost Tapes…
Uproxx reports that there’s a UK based auction house that’s apparently come into possession of some early and rare “never before seen” Beyoncé footage that they’re now selling for almost $4 million. It’s 12 tapes, over two and a half hours, performing as part of Girls Tyme, the predecessor to Destiny’s Child, and all of it representing what would go on to become the BEYONCÉ. I don’t know how much longer this is going to live online for, considering how understandably territorial Beyoncé is about… well… herself. I’m not even sure how this happened. And whether or not these people will survive it. So watch this now while you can.
Blue Ivy looks SO much like her, non?
