“This is not a drill” … is what you say, what you hear, when something like this happens. That is, when Beyoncé happens.
The CMAs are tonight. And while some people cared at the start of the day, a LOT of people are caring a lot more now because it’s been announced that Beyoncé will be performing:
It’s the 50th anniversary. But also, it’s the year of Lemonade. And there is a pure country song on Lemonade called Daddy Lessons. I remember when Lemonade first came out, people were calling for Daddy Lessons to get nominated at the Grammys in the country categories. Like she doesn’t already own it all, she has to go and take over country music too.
I’ve been texting my sources all afternoon about this and while they’re well connected enough to, in previous years, have all access at the CMAs, all they’ve been able to tell me this time is that “the backstage list is beyond tight” and that everything is on major “LOCKDOWN”. All caps lockdown.
Some people are speculating that Beyoncé may be doing Daddy Lessons with the Dixie Chicks because they’ve been covering the song on their tour. Anyway, all of this presents a viewing dilemma for some of us tonight because it’s also Game 7 of the World Series. Sarah’s from Chicago. She’s been in ulcer mode for a month now. I just texted her, just to be an asshole, asking “Beyoncé or Baseball?” She’s ignoring me.
Ps. OMG what if it's Beyoncé and Dolly Parton?!
