On The Hunger Games series

The following post is heavy on spoilers. If you’ve yet to read Suzanne Collins’s series - The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay – and intend to (of course you intend to!), please note that there will be several major plot revelations in the analysis below. Thank you for your emails and tweets about the book(s), the conclusion, the love triangle. Full Story

Monsieur Dexter

Have you read One Day yet? Please do soon. Because I always forget to alert for spoilers and it’s so hard especially when set shots are being released and besides, what’s the delay anyway? It’s one of the best books of the summer (my review is here Full Story

Great Skin & Gay YA

Lainey Posted by Lainey at August 19, 2010 09:27:47 August 19, 2010 09:27:47

As you know, I am all about reading YA. As I’ve noted, too many times, YA is way underrated. Good YA is as profound, complex, and insightful as any “adult” classified counterpart and again, if you don’t believe me, check out The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (YA) which is a masterpiece compared to Yann Martel – yeah, THAT Yann Martel – and Beatrice & Virgil, his latest smug mess. Full Story

I Am Number Four

They are hoping this will be the next “franchise”. It’s the first in what’s planned to be 6 books as part of the Lorien Legacies. Hopefully they build and improve. Because while I was totally into it the first half, like obsessed, by the end my enthusiasm had certainly sobered. Full Story

The search for Lisbeth Salander

Lainey Posted by Lainey at July 28, 2010 08:28:00 July 28, 2010 08:28:00

It’s become the most coveted role in recent memory – Lisbeth Salander, the badass heroine of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series now being, ugh, adapted for the screen in America ... because people won’t read subtitles. David Fincher’s heading up the remake and Daniel Craig was just confirmed this week at Mikael Blomkvist. Full Story

Megan Fox, The Hunger Games, and where to eat

Lainey Posted by Lainey at July 19, 2010 12:01:37 July 19, 2010 12:01:37

Last Wednesday, the night I ate those bad clams and almost lost the will to live, I was out for dinner with someone who lives in LA who was telling a story about eating at the Cheesecake Factory and I was like –there’s food at the Cheesecake Factory? And apparently it’s a proper restaurant, like any chain restaurant, in addition to sh-tloads of cheesecake. Full Story

On Furious Love

Lainey Posted by Lainey at July 6, 2010 13:18:00 July 6, 2010 13:18:00

Celebrity book excerpts are often the best parts of the book so that when you actually sit down to read the book, you find that you’ve already read the only parts worth reading. I worried that this would be the case with Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century after it was profiled in Vanity Fair. Full Story

They could be in West Egg

Lainey Posted by Lainey at July 2, 2010 08:19:47 July 2, 2010 08:19:47

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson were on the set of Water for Elephants yesterday and appeared to be shooting a fancy party scene which could be a fancy party scene from The Great Gatsby, and not only because of the era. Reese has long been spoken of as a possible Daisy Buchanan and Pattinson, with his new short hair neatly combed, certainly could pass for a character in the novel although I’d say right now, he’s more Nick Carraway than anyone else since he’s yet to develop the gravitas of the iconic Jay Gatsby or the spoiled wasteful air of Tom Buchanan. Full Story

Saoirse in green and as Katniss?

Lainey Posted by Lainey at June 24, 2010 11:28:40 June 24, 2010 11:28:40

Acclaimed young actress Saoirse Ronan attended the Irish premiere of Shrek yesterday in a pair of steezy pink chucks with a blazer, topped off with light green Ray-Bans which obviously I love because I have them too. (Photo attached from Barbados) Saoirse, now 16, is always at the top of the list for discussion on who should play Katniss Everdeen in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games film adaptation. Full Story

Mads & Lisbeth

Lainey Posted by Lainey at May 17, 2010 13:17:48 May 17, 2010 13:17:48

This is for you, you know who you are, and you keep asking me about Mads Mikkelsen and why he doesn’t get enough love so here he is, last night at the gala for La princesse de Montpensier with Barthelemy Grossmann, and none other than Noomi Rapace. Who? She plays Lisbeth Salander in the film adaptations for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo of the Millennium Series, motherf-ckers, which means she’s the original and no one should be adapting that sh-t for English. Full Story

Book Review - Going in Circles

Lainey Posted by Lainey at April 22, 2010 13:40:13 April 22, 2010 13:40:13

Posted by DuanaSo last night I sent out an all-call to my friends. You know the type, where you kind of feel whiny and precious and you don't know what you want them to do, exactly, but somehow someone sending you a hairstylist recommendation makes you feel like you're not alone and can go on functioning in the world? Heartfelt talks and emotions with your friends are great but more of the time you just want them to be there. Full Story
