Sophia Loren. At the Palais today for a photo call. And she must have liked the light because she took off her sunglasses. Today she wore red. The other night on the carpet it was sparkly and silvery gold. Kinda like a finger snap. Step off, young ladies. This is mine. It’s always been mine. Full Story

Dylan’s over in Cannes shooting footage for etalk with our host Tanya Kim. They’ve been sending back some great shots and interviews that will air on the show all week, including some inadvertent (?) gossip I thought you might enjoy. I suppose it’s all in the interpretation. So last night we aired our interview with Atom Egoyan who directed Ryan Reynolds in The Captive. Full Story

Lost River was booed yesterday in Cannes. I mean there was some applause. But the jeering was much louder. And most of the high profile critics seem to agree that, well, Lost River just isn’t a very good movie. With the exception of Anne Thompson at IndieWire, Ryan Gosling’s debut effort as a director did not impress. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

I interviewed Angelina Jolie yesterday. I’ve interviewed her before (Kung Fu Panda 2), but never for that long and also never alone. Makes a big difference. Like, I still feel her in my blood. And I think, I think I made her laugh. Twice. I also think, maybe, she enjoyed talking to me about feminism. But then again, I feel like maybe I’ve rewritten our entire narrative in my mind, imagined an entirely different situation than the one that actually went down. Which was, basically, me completely useless, just staring at her ridiculously perfect face. Haven’t watched the tapes back yet but I was there for etalk for the Maleficent Canadian exclusive with her so we’ll be airing the clips all week on the show, 7pm on CTV.  Read Full Intro

A selection of shots of Robert Pattinson in Cannes is attached. Pattinson was at the festival representing two films – first The Rover and then David Cronenberg’s Maps To The Stars. Pattinson’s performance in The Rover was called by many to be the best of his career. And he apparently delivers in Maps To The Stars too. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio has no official reason to be in Cannes. Actually that’s not true. His official reason for being in Cannes is To Party. Always. Because it never gets old for him. Year after year, the yachts, the cheesy Euro clubs, the dance beats, the spraying of champagne all over model tits, this never gets old. Full Story

Ryan Gosling has returned to Cannes, this time as a director. He and several members of his Lost River cast, including Christina Hendricks and Matt Smith, were at the photo call today to represent the film. Haven’t read any reviews yet. I’ll do a pick up on this with the carpet shots from the Palais when critics start releasing their comments. Full Story

As expected, Blake Lively accompanied husband to the Cannes premiere of The Captive on Friday night. When I saw her dress, what popped into my head was... Grace Of Monaco, the opening night film, starring Nicole Kidman. Blake was there too. She wore brown-ish wine-colour Gucci. Boring. But can you imagine if she'd chosen this one? I would have liked to see the look on Granny Freeze's face. Full Story

At the Foxcatcher photo call today in Cannes – Mark Ruffalo, Channing Tatum, Steve Carell, with director Bennett Miller ahead of the big premiere and looking very confident after the press screenings. Miller delivers great work, work that’s worth waiting for. Last time it was Moneyball which went on to receive several Oscar nominations. Full Story

Ryan Gosling was photographed at LAX yesterday heading to Cannes where he’ll present Lost River, formerly titled How To Catch A Monster, out of competition. As you know, it’s his directorial debut. They’re saying it’s a dark fairy tale. Also, perhaps, a love letter to Detroit. Full Story

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy. And only Cate Blanchett can manage to not look stupid standing next to a plastic dragon on the carpet in Cannes tonight.  You know who else caught my eye though? Mia from Love Actually, Heike Makatsch. Seriously, I was juuuuust looking at photos of her in the agency database when Dylan messaged me from Cannes. Full Story

Ryan Reynolds, Scott Speedman, Rosario Dawson, and Mireille Enos joined director Atom Egoyan at the photo call for their film The Captive today in Cannes. They all look great. Unfortunately the film…was not well received. Grace Of Monaco was already a bust at the festival and it looks like The Captive is getting similar reviews. Full Story

Cate Blanchett was in Cannes last night for Chopard. She presented the Chopard trophy to two young actors,  Adele Exarchopoulos and Logan Lerman. Today she was back on the Croisette at the photo call for How To Train Your Dragon 2. Some of my favourites were there with her: Djimon Hounsou, America Ferrera, and Jay Baruchel, representing the strong Canadian presence at the festival this year. Full Story

Lupita Nyong'o was sighted in Cannes today outside the Hotel Martinez. Now I'm even more excited. You saw what Lupita delivered at the MET Gala. It was polarising but it gave us something to talk about. And she played. She came to play. So Lupita at the Palais? On the red steps? Please I want to see. Full Story
