The documentary Whitney about Whitney Houston’s life and legacy premiered at Cannes last night. It’s the second high-profile doc on Whitney Houston released in a year. I saw the first one, Whitney: Can I Be Me, at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto and I was left disappointed and pretty f-cking enraged by how much of the film focused on the salacious parts of Whitney’s life. Full Story

Kristen Stewart is jurying at Cannes, which means a lot of talking to press for two solid weeks, something she is much better at now than she was at the height of her Twilight teen idoldom. (Dakota Johnson is also more relaxed and engaging when promoting anything other than Fifty Shades, funny how that works. Full Story

We have, over the years, enjoyed reporting on John Travolta’s hair. His hair has been spray-painted, shellacked, and the hairline has gone through some fascinating changes. The colour, for example, was so dark at one point, Elvis Presley would have been jealous. John was in Cannes last night with Kelly Preston and their kids to promote Gotti and to receive Variety’s first Cinema Icon Award. Full Story

Kristen Stewart posed with her shoes on last night at the Palais in Cannes. And then she took them off to go up the steps. Many are interpreting it as a protest against that Cannes footwear policy about women and heels. It was a controversy in 2015 when several women claimed they were rejected from entry at a premiere because of what they were wearing. Full Story

Joe Alwyn was in Cannes last night, for the first time, to receive the Trophée Chopard that’s awarded each year to a rising star. Elizabeth Debicki was also a recipient. Joe has two films coming out later this year – Mary Queen of Scot and The Favourite, both period pieces, and both to be released in time for award season. Full Story
