BAFTA Bests: Colin Firth & Carey Mulligan
They were honoured as Best Actor and Best Actress last night at the BAFTAs, two Brits named the class of the year for their performances in A Single Man and An Education respectively. Carey as you can see, after losing so much momentum through the season, seems thrilled to have been recognised at home. She was beaming and appreciative and adorable and for me this was the dress of the night. It’s playful, it’s imaginative, it’s flattering… Not something I would choose for myself, but certainly suitable for Carey’s originality. It was her night. And she owned it. With Colin Firth.
Colin Firth dressed by Tom Ford. Tom Colin Firth directed by Tom Ford resulted in a BAFTA. Colin Firth on stage resulted in this: so much sexy, so much man, and so elegant, and so funny, and … just watch.
They’re saying today in the UK press that he could be the great British actor of our time. The new Anthony Hopkins. That his BAFTA win cements what was an increasingly impressive reputation and signals much more brilliance to come.
