Colin Firth

Arguments for: - His performance in The King’s Speech should earn him another Oscar nomination, making it two years in a row. And the timing was similar for Hugh Jackman two years ago like this too, as Australia was just about to open wide when the SMA was announced.- He’s Mr Darcy AND Mark Darcy, he’s Love Actually, there’s an undeniable widespread affection that women feel for Colin Firth very closely associated with how they felt when they watched those movies, and these movies are among all time favourites. Full Story

The King’s Speech goes to Hollywood

Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush attended the tribute Gala for The King’s Speech at the AFI Fest on Friday night, marking perhaps the official kickoff of the film’s campaign for Oscar. Many predict it’ll be George VI vs Mark Zuckerberg at the Kodak next year as The King’s Speech and The Social Network are said to be, at the moment, the two strongest candidates for Best Picture. Full Story

The King’s Speech at home

Lainey Posted by Lainey at October 21, 2010 07:38:39 October 21, 2010 07:38:39

Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter were at the photocall for The King’s Speech today at the London Film Festival, screening tonight for a home audience. Needless to say, this will be the film that sweeps the BAFTAs, right? Colin seems to be working out a curious little side lean action here. Full Story

Finally...the trailer

My answer during and after TIFF to everyone who asked – what’s the one movie I should see? – has been without fail The King’s Speech. And not only because I adore Colin Firth which, obviously, I do. But also because I adore Geoffrey Rush. And the two of them together, the chemistry, the way they both elevated their games, it’s the kind of acting that makes going to the movies so much fun, and the kind of acting that reminds you it is indeed very much an art. Full Story

Colin Firth: people’s choice

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 20, 2010 06:56:00 September 20, 2010 06:56:00

Well of course he is. TIFF closed this weekend and The King’s Speech won the festival’s People’s Choice Award. You know what else won the People’s Choice Award? Slumdog Millionaire two years ago and Precious in 2009. There is no doubt – Colin Firth is headed back to the Oscars. Full Story

The King’s 50th at Soho House/Grey Goose

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 10, 2010 07:29:00 September 10, 2010 07:29:00

Happy Birthday Colin Firth! He celebrated last night at an exclusive private party at Soho House, an intimate, elegant affair, and, as always, was beautiful and charming, as was his wife, and together, well, it’s too much beauty and charm, and then they brought him his birthday cake, adorned with 9 candles, and she beamed at him from across the table, and he beamed back, and they giggled over a portrait that was presented to him when he had really shaggy, long 70s hair, and he delivered an impromptu address, self deprecatingly of course, about how much he values his friends, and how he hopes to keep his hair, and not become increasingly jowly, and she threw her head back and laughed at everything he said, and afterwards they embraced and once in a while, not often, but once in a while, you get to see an actual movie star, a celebrity in every sense of the word, who is actually a human being too. Full Story

How about this to start the weekend? Colin Firth accepted the Taormina Arte Award last night at the Taormina Film Fest 2010 in Italy accompanied by his wife Livia. You think he gave his speech in Italian? He probably gave his speech in Italian. You know he speaks Italian right? Start at 1:25. Enjoy. PS. Full Story

BAFTA Bests: Colin Firth & Carey Mulligan

Lainey Posted by Lainey at February 22, 2010 07:59:51 February 22, 2010 07:59:51

They were honoured as Best Actor and Best Actress last night at the BAFTAs, two Brits named the class of the year for their performances in A Single Man and An Education respectively. Carey as you can see, after losing so much momentum through the season, seems thrilled to have been recognised at home. Full Story

The men and Julianne

Lainey Posted by Lainey at February 10, 2010 08:36:59 February 10, 2010 08:36:59

Julianne Moore was surrounded by the Men, the most beautiful Men, last night in Paris at the premiere of A Single Man. Lucky bitch. Here she is, flanked by Colin Firth and Tom Ford, her second film screening in as many days, having just promoted Chloe earlier this week. Not crazy about her dress, but do love the theatricality of the cape. Full Story

Which portrait is the fairest?

Lainey Posted by Lainey at February 4, 2010 15:20:15 February 4, 2010 15:20:15

The Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue features skinny white girls on the front and actor/director portraits inside, all of them by Annie Leibovitz and much more interesting than the banality on the cover. Not to say that individually, those girls are delightful, but again, the lack of diversity was troubling, a reflection of that industry and also our own tastes. Full Story

A Single Man’s single hope

Lainey Posted by Lainey at February 2, 2010 07:21:07 February 2, 2010 07:21:07

Is Colin Firth. And it’s a longshot. But it means he’ll be at the Kodak of March 7th. And this is not something to complain about. ‘Specially not when he looks like this. Colin and Livia attended the UK premiere of A Single Man last night in London and he also appeared on GMTV this morning to promote the film. Full Story
