Drew Barrymore: Globes Pregnant Child
I’ve said this before on this blog: Why do we infantalise pregnant women? Why do they infantalise themselves?
You will tell me that Drew Barrymore was pretty much a child anyway, before she starting having kids. True. But she ran her own production company. She directed her own movies. She's lifestyling herself in makeup and wine. This woman is a BUSINESS.
But it wasn’t a woman who stepped out of that car yesterday. It was a little girl. A pregnant little girl with a little girl face, skipping and baby talking her way down the carpet in a dress that looked like every pregnancy cliché had vomited all over it. Pink, petals, fertile, growth, nature, angels, innocence, purity, floating, gardens, peace, love – all of it is punching me in the face, over and over and over again … with one message:
To be pregnant is to be whole.
I believe you. I really, really do. But I don’t understand because at one point, before the marriage and the children, Drew was actually more grownup than she’d ever been. So why this …regression… and at the moment where she couldn’t be LESS of an infant?
