Ewan McGregor dumped?

So far I’m only seeing this covered by UK outlets – perhaps because the original source of the report is usually so full of sh-t. That would be Star Magazine. Star reports in its latest issue that Mary Elizabeth Winstead broke up with Ewan McGregor because she didn’t want to be called a “homewrecker” anymore. Full Story

I have not seen the season of Fargo that stars Ewan McGregor for which he won the Golden Globe. When we were deciding on writing assignments last night, and I ended up with Ewan, Duana made a point of telling me that he plays twins. Full Story

Ewan McGregor or bust

Sarah Posted by Sarah at August 18, 2017 14:45:07 August 18, 2017 14:45:07

Yesterday word got out that LucasFilm is talking to director Stephen Daldry about making an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie for their “Star Wars Story” spin-off line. This should be an automatic YES and a fist pump, but I had only the following reaction: If it does not star Ewan McGregor, I do not care. Full Story

Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast

You know the story: Belle’s a bookworm who doesn’t fit in, there’s a beast, a cursed castle, and lots of musical numbers. The live action remake of Beauty and the Beast changes little of the main plot, but it does take pains to address some questions that have lingered in the twenty-six years since the animated movie came out, like “why did the servants get cursed, too?” (because they “did nothing” about the prince turning into a spoilt nightmare person), and “can anyone in the village read besides Belle and the book guy?” (no). Full Story

After the last week, the live-action Beauty and the Beast is looking like more and more of a sure thing. People are going to be desperate for this kind of escape—indeed, already are— and fantasy films will benefit most of all. It’s into this atmosphere of conflict and despair that Disney dropped the first trailer for Beauty and the Beast: But Real This Time, and if the photos were crazy Full Story

Ewan McGregor’s American Pastoral

Ewan McGregor makes his directorial debut adapting Philip Roth’s novel American Pastoral, and while he doesn’t embarrass himself, he also doesn’t do himself any favors. Working from an adaptation by John Romano (The Lincoln Lawyer), Pastoral manages to feel too long and like not enough at the same time, and it’s a reminder that not every story, no matter how good, is inherently cinematic. Full Story

Is it OK to love Trainspotting?

Duana Posted by Duana at July 25, 2016 18:55:41 July 25, 2016 18:55:41

The summer Trainspotting came out, we were obsessed with it. It was hot all the time and we were allowed a little more freedom than we had been before. We were using most of it to go downtown, to see and buy and consume things that weren’t available at the mall or the Blockbuster. We would get off the subway and walk down the grotty Yonge Street strip to the Uptown Theatre, which was kind of delightfully grotty itself, and then watch Trainspotting. Full Story

Little Beauty, Less Beast

Duana Posted by Duana at May 24, 2016 15:42:13 May 24, 2016 15:42:13

I hope you were not waiting on this.  For lots of people, Beauty and The Beast went hand-in-hand with The Little Mermaid as the hallmarks of the renaissance of New Disney—headstrong heroines who love books and adventures and just happen to find romance along the way. Then for others, Beauty and The Beast, the stage musical, was a surprisingly mid-key segue between the grandiose musicals your mom went to with her friends, like Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, and the RENTs and Avenue Qs that became your workout soundtracks on a super-skip-y CD Walkman. Full Story
