BAFTA Recycle: Freida Pinto

Oh Freida. Another major awards show, another disappointing choice. I worry for our Freida. The colour… not crazy about how it washes her out. And the dress – it’s an Oscar de la Renta but it may as well be Dior two years ago. Both Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore wore a variation in fuschia and green that at the time I called lettuce and now it’s been recycled. Full Story

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle took home top honours this weekend at the Directors Guild Awards in Hollywood. Dev Patel and Freida Pinto were with him to help celebrate. Freida was also spotted in Little India, southeast of Los Angeles, at a photo shoot the other day. As you can see, she’s ridiculously beautiful. Full Story

SAG Prom: Freida Pinto

Please. Find her a stylist. Or sack the existing one. It’s a crime this girl, as gorgeous as she is, cannot live up to her true potential on a big night. Because at every major carpet this season, Freida Pinto is wearing a prom dress. SAG was no exception. It’s the colour. Gross. It’s the old lady weaving in the chest area that screams Arlene’s Dress Shoppe – for all your fancy occasions! Brutal. Full Story

SAG Awards Wrap-Up

Slumdog is sweeping everything. Like, everything. But never forget what the Academy did to Brokeback. So the SAGs happened last night. The Brange, as usual, had them screaming loudest even though Angelina decided to put everyone to sleep in her toga. But Meryl, Kate, Tina Fey…how’s that for a power lady trifecta? We’ll break down the Oscar implications in the days to come. Full Story

Slumdog vs Goliath

So you know by now, it’s Slumdog the Underdog vs Benjamin Button Goliath at the Oscars. Understand who Academy members actually are: old people and Hollywood players. This is why Crash won so undeservedly over Brokeback Mountain. Because they voted for their friends. Benjamin Button is a Hollywood movie. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Missing Milk?

Many of you emailed to ask about James Franco at the Globes on Sunday. He was nominated in Colin Farrell’s category but wasn’t there. No one from Milk was there. And Milk did not receive a nomination for Best Picture. Collective boycott? Well it’s not like Sean Penn wasn’t in town. Here he is, the Best Actor, all smiles and very jovial, yesterday at the LA Film Critics Association Awards, considered a much more reliable predictor of Oscar than the Globes. Slumdog cuties Dev Patel and Freida Pinto also showed up as did Sally Hawkins fresh off her win for Happy-Go-Lucky. Everyone’s campaigning.

Speaking of Colin – thank you for enthusiastic response to this article. Colin or friendship? Colin or Duana? Check the poll.

Tuesday – blogging all day in between beagle time. My poor Marcus is still not better.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

PS. Good luck to the Cecilia Ensemble Women’s Choir performing with special guests the Laudate Singers on Friday January 16th at 8pm at Holy Rosary Cathedral in support of Covenant House Vancouver! Admission by donation – for more details click here. Thank you so much for your support!

Globes Most Amateur: Freida Pinto

You know I love her. You know she’s stunning. But it’s her first time. It’s all happening so quickly. So when poking her with our judgy stick, let’s not go too hardcore. Freida Pinto is a novice. And while nothing can take away from her beauty, well, this dress is trying its best to. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Slumdog, Slumdog – yes, yes, YES!

The little movie kicked big ass last night at the Critics’ Choice Awards taking home Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writer, and Best Young Actor for Dev Patel pretty much assuring an Oscar nomination and, perhaps, just maybe, a crazy unthinkable impossible win for Slumdog the Underdog on February 22nd… ??? Can you stand it? And have you seen it? You must.

So Round 1 goes to Sean Penn. Named Best Actor over Mickey Rourke even though it’s the critics who have been the most supportive of Mickey’s comeback turn in The Wrestler. When it comes to industry votes then, Sean has to be considered an overwhelming favourite. Rourke has 6 weeks to rally… will he?

And the ladies of Pradia tie. Love.

To see the full list of Critics’ Choice winners click here. Benjamin Button suddenly doesn’t look like such a sure thing…

Here’s my Freida Pinto with Danny Boyle and the Slumdog team last night and also at a style party just before looking exquisite in black. Dev Patel couldn’t come. Hopefully he’ll be around on Sunday.

I’ve been posting late in the day. Scroll down to get caught up.

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the Globes! Full Globe wrap-up on Monday morning!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

If you’ve seen it, you already know. Her name is Freida Pinto. Ridiculously beautiful. I saw Slumdog Millionaire with my husband. When we were leaving I asked him if he enjoyed it. His answer: Yeah, it was good. Let’s go home so I can google that girl. HOT. Fiona had the same experience with her husband Kiu. Full Story
