George Clooney goes back to work too
Amal Alamuddin Clooney went back to work this week, advising the Greek government on the Parthenon Marbles situation. She returned to London yesterday. Here’s George Clooney in Vancouver, back for Tomorrowland. Will his wife show up in Canada for the weekend?
A lot of you have been asking me about this name change situation, whether or not it’s a problem. I didn’t take Jacek’s last name. It’s not a thing in my culture. My ma didn’t take my dad’s name. Amal’s mother did take her dad’s name. And, ultimately, to me, that’s a choice – which is what we fought for, what we’re still fighting for.
Does it mean she’s giving herself over the archaism of women being property and adjustable at the whim of the man? Well, would you think less of a woman for having a baby the same way some of you think less of Amal for changing her name? Because the only “choice” we used to have was to stay home and look after the children. Absurd, right?
I respect your choice to be a mother. And if it’s your choice to change your name, that’s good too. As long as you had one – a choice, that is. I don’t doubt that Amal had a choice.
