Cate Blanchett won the Critics Award as Best Actress for playing Blanche DuBois in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire yesterday. Big surprise. From Sydney to DC to NYC, if you’ve seen her on stage, you know she practically reinvented the role. As reviewed in the NY Times, it’s like seeing Blanche, hearing Blanche, living Blanche for the first time ever. Full Story

Best Last Year: Kate Winslet

My love. Our love. Our Kate. Duana noted on our live blog last night: Tomorrow can you write an article about how Kate knows how to dress down when it's not her turn? With pleasure. These are the girl code moves Victoria Beckham keeps violating. Kate Winslet happily worked the carpet last year. As a nominee. Full Story

Best Globes Makeup: Marion Cotillard

Wasn’t my favourite Marion dress ever but I don’t think it was intended to be. She knows when it’s her time and when it’s not. Again, these are girl code subtleties that we all recognise. Well, most of us anyway. But while Marion’s style choice wasn’t intended for the best, there is no downplaying that face. Full Story

Worst Globes Sag: Carey Mulligan

Carey did not bring Shia. Boo. Carey lost to Sandra Bullock. Boo. Not that I don’t love Sandy. I do. But The Blind Side was not An Education. There was no comparing the performances. Perhaps Carey’s loss was predicted by her sagging tits. Oh honey, give ‘em a hitch. Duana, Michelle, and I we wanted to do it for her. Full Story

Winona is still invited

Well that’s a good sign. Last week while sick I indulged in an old movie marathon which included How to Make an American Quilt. It was 15 years ago. And Winona Ryder was perfect. As A List as A List could get. So breathtakingly beautiful. I mean that face. There still isn’t anything like that face. Full Story

Here they come. Marion Cotillard arrived in LA yesterday under a trilby in advance of the Golden Globes on Sunday. Penelope Cruz boarded in Madrid today, presumably heading for the same. Both ladies of Nine have been nominated, Marion for Best Actress, Pene for Best Supporting, and they will join their co-star Third Lip Kidman, a presenter, at the Nine table at the Beverly Hilton. Full Story

The unfrumpy slit

Marion Cotillard in Rome today at the premiere of Nine in an Angelina Jolie-esque matron back ensemble that at first glance is kinda frumpy and then she turned to the side and, well, not to get all perv but it’s hard for the eye not to follow her hamstring right up to what looks like an impossibly perfect curve of the asscheek, oh la. Full Story

His and Her Rising Stars

In 2008, Shia LaBeouf received the BAFTA Rising Star Award. Two years later, his girlfriend Carey Mulligan has been nominated for the same, and is expected to also receive a nomination for Best Leading Actress for An Education which leads the nominations longlist at 17 mentions. His and Her Rising Stars? It’s a little twee, sure. Full Story

Last year was a hot one for Vancouver filming. While the Twilight Nation eagerly awaits word about Breaking Dawn’s shooting location, other smaller projects are kicking off the new year here. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are coming home to film I’m With Cancer next month and right now, already rolling, Kat Dennings is in town working on Mike Goldbach’s Daydream Nation co-starring Josh Lucas (who replaced Scott Speedman) and Andie McDowell. Full Story

I met Jeff Bridges a few months ago in Toronto during TIFF. He showed up at the Men Who Stare at Goats afterparty and I remember posting on my Twitter right away that he`s a sexy beast. It`s a lot of beard, but there`s something so compelling about him, about the way his eyes crinkle, and how he holds himself, and his cowboy boots and the pants, oh yeah, the pants. Full Story

My husband. It’s a great relief to me now that Jacek’s quiveration preferences have changed since we’ve been together. When we met, he had Heather Graham on his list. He will argue that this is largely attributable to the fact that Austin Powers was his hero but back then, undeniably, dopey eyed and big tits were his go-to risers. Full Story
