Best use of George Clooney

Please can we enjoy this moment again? I love this moment. I loved it when Amy Poehler sat on George Clooney’s lap when his category was being presented. Look at his face. Look at that smile. This is when I love him the most. He’s game, you know? As Duana said at the time, George Clooney is rarely pouty. Full Story

Globes Worst Olsen Twin – Kristen Wiig

How is it that other people get concern levied at them if they have too little eyeliner on but everyone just lets Kristen Wiig look nuts, and nobody says anything? The red hair and tan skin combined to make her look like nothing so much as the third Olsen twin, not least because she’s lost in the bottom of that dress. Full Story

A Cheongsam at the Globes: Sienna Miller

Two piece cheongsams are popular at weddings. I think I wore one at mine, picked out by my ma, obviously. Was this Erdem, worn by Sienna Miller, inspired by the cheongsam? Picture it in red with gold detailing, perhaps leading you to your table at a Chinese restaurant. Right? I don’t hate the choice the way some of you do. Full Story

My friend V and I talk all the time about how the key to success is to “not look sideways”. You can’t check out what other people are doing because, even if it’s a path to spectacular success, it’s their path. You’re not them, so don’t compare yourself or try to do what they do. Full Story

Worst Swiss Dot: Rachel Weisz

Look, I don’t want you to think I’m not in favour of change. I love change, and I loved the hint, last night, that the Golden Globes don’t have to be quite as formal all the time as the other shows. Shorter dresses said hello and all. Do you think, though, that this is how we should be going, Weisz? Do you think this is a good example of how to change things up? Miles of see-through Swiss-Dot? Who does this benefit? I mean, I suppose it means you’ve honed your thighs to be the same circumference all the way down, but it doesn’t make it a good look. Full Story

Jodie Foster comes out at the Golden Globes

When does the Cecil B DeMille Award recipient ever take over the Golden Globes? Never, right? It’s the only moment of the show without suspense. The whole room knows, weeks and weeks in advance, who’s getting it. And even if the recipient gives a great speech, it’s rarely great enough to dominate the post-show discussion. Full Story

Check out Bradley Cooper’s face at the 0:58 mark in the video below. He really wanted it, didn’t he? Come. Let’s give him something. Let’s give him the hair. He really did have great hair last night. He’s been fighting with it lately -- click here Full Story

Best Globe GIF: Taylor Swift

Taylor, you give to us so much. You really are so selfless and wonderful.   I thought it wasn’t going to be a you night, really. After all, you showed up looking age appropriate in brown/eggplant (Lainey would want me to point out that it was satiny and wrinkled) and your hair was sedate. Full Story

Michelle Dockery had the best time at the Globes

Lainey Posted by Lainey at January 14, 2013 19:05:08 January 14, 2013 19:05:08

It seemed like it, didn’t it? Every time the camera found her she was laughing. She looked like she was having so much fun. And it was particularly evident because she was seated with Benedict Cumberbatch who seemed to take inspiration from Joaquin Phoenix. No strong feelings either way for the dress. Full Story

Best Globe Win, Bad Dress: Jennifer Lawrence (guest appearance by Marion Cotillard!)

I don’t blame you, dude. I know you’re busy, you have a lot going on, and you have a whole lot of best-dressed lists to land on before February 24th. I don’t want you think I blame you. But what in the holy hell is up with wearing orange dresses on the carpet that haven’t been camera-tested? In photos, the dress comes off as something I can mostly only describe as burnt coral. Full Story

Best Globe Date: Daniel Day-Lewis

Lainey Posted by Lainey at January 14, 2013 18:25:41 January 14, 2013 18:25:41
ROBYN BECK/ Kevin Winter/ Getty

I mean his date. His date Rebecca Miller. Tommy Lee Jones smiled once last night. It was when Daniel Day-Lewis won. And it was also, I think, the one time Joaquin Phoenix had a pleasant look on his face too. Only DDL, right? DDL is so f-cking good that even when the orchestra starts up with the music intended to make him leave, it ends up working for him like the swell in a scene from a movie when the hero arrives to deliver an impassioned speech to rouse his followers. Full Story
