Gwen & Gavin are officially divorced
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin were so consciously uncoupled they sat on their divorce documents for over a year. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, however, are now officially divorced and their divorce settlement has been made public.
As reported a few weeks ago, even though there was no prenup in place, Gavin agreed to less than 50%. Gwen’s keeping the money she made during their marriage. And this is significant because he basically hasn’t mattered for 15 years while she went on to a successful solo career, launch a brand, and a network television paycheque. She’s also keeping their homes in LA while he’s getting their four properties in Europe. And they’re sharing custody of their children.
So Gavin could have fought for more. But let’s not start a conversation, please, about how gracious and classy he’s being in this situation. Not only because of all the sh-t that went down with the nanny but also because, well, some of this is about self-preservation. You remember what she told the New York Times last month? She didn’t deny the reports about the nanny. And she even revealed that the real story behind what went down is actually more salacious:
“If I could, I would just tell you everything, and you would just be in shock. It’s a really good, juicy story.”
I’m hoping now that that was a negotiation strategy. Like a reminder to Gavin about how much sh-t she could pile on him. And, clearly, he heard it. Which would be the first time he was hearing her in a long time. If that’s the case, great. Because, as you know, it never seemed like Gwen was assertive in that relationship. It never seemed like she stopped being grateful to him for loving her. And now, now it feels like even though it took her a while to get there, when she was done, she was f-cking DONE. Done worrying about his lead singer feelings. Done worrying about whether or not she was worthy of his lead singer attention. Done not getting hers.
