Duana and I went to Midnight Magic for the Harry Potter And The Cursed Child release on Saturday night. People were queuing all over the place inside the store for different activations. The first excerpt from JK Rowling’s History of Magic in North America was posted yesterday, and it focused on Native American wizards. As a half-Oglala Lakota kid who grew up searching for any signs of my culture that wasn’t a mascot, I almost cried reading it. It was announced yesterday that on July 31st, which is JK Rowling’s birthday and also Harry Potter’s birthday, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts I & II will be published, immediately following the stage production.
Because when the announcement first came out last October, I was one of probably millions of whiney babies who moaned about not being able to get to London’s West End to see the play and whyyyyyy couldn’t it have been a book? Click here for a refresher.
Well now it is a book. NOT A NOVEL.
The story is set 19 years after the end of The Deathly Hallows. Like the Battle of Hogwarts, I’m assuming, and not the epilogue at King’s Cross. And the darkness, it comes back in unexpected places. Well of course it does. What’s life without some darkness, even for those who live among magic? So, basically, there is no happily ever after. There are just stretches of happiness balanced out by challenges. Sound familiar? That’s what good luck, bad luck, and feng shui is all about too!

Everybody’s talking about the Oscar nominations. And some people are talking about how Tom Hardy has a nomination and is in two Oscar nominated Best Pictures. OK but Domhnall Gleeson doesn’t have a nomination but he’s in The Revenant, Brooklyn, Star Wars, and Ex Machina, all films that received Oscar nominations today. Full Story
