Intro for March 20, 2013
It finally happened. After a two year drought, it’s finally happened. I’ve fallen in love... with a book! The last time was Emma Forrest’s Your Voice In My Head and I worried she’d ruined me forever. I tried everything. I went against type. I said yes to every recommendation. I went online. I was book-easy and indiscriminate...but Book Love, it cannot be forced. And besides, when it does arrive, you know, and then you realise it was worth waiting for.
Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life is totally worth waiting for. I’d wait for it all over again. You’ll be happy to have waited for it too, when it’s over. It was over for me last night after one of those weekends -- you know, when you can’t leave each other alone? Life After Life came everywhere with me in LA. I’d read in the hotel hallway at the junkets. I’d get on the junket shuttle early, to read. I read before the screenings and I’d read instead of going out at night. Then, when I got close, I stopped reading on the plane to save the last 100 pages or so because it deserved to be finished at home, surrounded by all the other things that I love. Are you as lame and corny when you find Book Love?
Life After Life is available on April 2. Clear your schedule for the few days after because you won’t be able to do much else.
Yours in gossip,
PS. Book covering is such a mystery to me. Look at these two -- would you have ever thought they were for the same novel? Here, I prefer the UK version.
Update: have added the Canadian cover now as well.
