Intro for May 20, 2010
So Jesse James will be interviewed on Nightline by Vicky Mabrey airing on May 25. It’ll be his first since he blew up his life and became the most hated man in America. Apparently he will be talking about the cheating and the rehab and presumably the alleged racism. Perhaps he’ll give the reporter a tour of his house, letting the camera casually capture the copy of Schindler’s List sitting atop the DVD player just below a poster of Dusty Springfield* mounted in the family room, the frame lightly distressed ... because it’s been there for years and years and years.
Oh Celebrity Rehabilitation. As if a treatment centre could possibly cure someone from being an asshole. Is there really a magic fix?
Same goes for Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Undeniable, yes, that he has addiction issues. But will getting clean suddenly mean that he’ll no longer drop the n-word? It was the Drank, right? The Drank made him a bigot.
It’s Thursday, our last night in Cannes, and guess what? OF COURSE Lindsay Lohan has a long list of people to blame for not making it back to LA in time for her court hearing. Her own name however is not mentioned. And neither is Dominic Cooper’s. Click here if you missed that article from yesterday. Just four hours before she was supposed to leave for her flight on Wednesday, she was partying with him and didn’t seem to be anxious at all about that missing passport.
Am online all day (Cannes time) and then it’s AMFAR tonight at the du Cap followed by the Artists for Peace & Justice party hosted by Paul Haggis and Russell Crowe. An allnighter to end it off.
Yours in gossip,
*In 1964, virtually no celebrities were openly opposing apartheid. Springfield was scheduled to perform in South Africa but when she learned that she’d be playing for a segregated audience she insisted on an anti-segregation clause in her contract, the first performer to take such a stand, thereby playing for blacks and whites, resulting in her eventual deportation when the government found out that a mixed crowed was enjoying her music. F-cking badass.
