Intro for Sep 04, 2009
Last night in my sleep the complete dvd set of True Blood Season 3 arrived at my house for my birthday. The entire dream revolved around my efforts to sit down and watch, thwarted at every turn by a series of interruptions – the phone, my mother, my husband, my dog – and when I finally found myself free from distraction, in front of the tv, remote in hand, ready to press play, the goddamn alarm went off.
My dreams are rarely so vivid. Wonder what it meant.
Many of you have written to ask about Jane Bussmann’s book The Worst Date Ever – here’s what I noted about it earlier in the week: don’t worry, it’s not chick lit. It’s a caustic bitch comedy writer former celebrity journalist turned foreign correspondent who actually ended up in war-torn Uganda because she was crushing on an activist John Prendergast and wanted to make him fall in love with her.
Bussmann is merciless – on Hollywood, on Ashton Kutcher, on several douchebag dumb twat stars she’s interviewed, and yes, on the vapid celebrity culture that feeds this blog. She’s brilliant. And hilarious. And bitterly contemptuous. Love her so much. The Worst Date Ever - a perfect end of summer read. Full review in book section when I’m done.
I was sent a review copy from the UK. Unfortunately, it’s not available here. Am continually baffled by the way publishing works between countries. No doubt some smartass will send me an email today lecturing me about the process. Doesn’t change the fact that as of right now, The Worst Date Ever has not been acquired by a North American publisher…but Lauren Conrad can sign a 3 book deal???
This is why you cannot find it in a North American store. You can however buy it here.
It’s Friday and it’s the long weekend! Have a great long weekend!
Yours in gossip,
