Intro for September 13, 2013
A new trailer for August: Osage County was released yesterday. Better than the first one that came out around Mother’s Day – click here for a refresher – but it still doesn’t quite capture the tone of story if you know the play. There is however more of the Meryl. Since they’ve moved the Meryl back into Best Actress contention for her performance, which no doubt is extraordinary, they’re now selling it around her too. Like, “you can’t miss this movie that Meryl might win an Oscar for”.
TIFF concludes this weekend. And while August: Osage County was, for the most part, warmly received at the festival, its reviews came nowhere near the universal acclaim of 12 Years A Slave. They’re saying that 12 Years is now the one to beat. Some are saying it can’t be beat. That there’s nothing left that could possibly be better, even though Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street and Clooney’s Monuments Men have yet to be screened. Have they never met the Academy before?
My TIFF duties end at 6:30pm tonight after covering my final gala for Bright Days Ahead. Fanny Ardant! Thanks for your understanding and patience through all the typos the last 10 days. And remember, in 10 days, it’s the Emmys!
Have a great weekend!
