Every year people are like, Who “won” Comic Con? And every year the answer is: Marvel. No one puts on a better show, and you know they’ve got the magic touch when they don’t actually have to release anything online and they STILL get the most hype. They screened a scene from Black Panther and a new trailer and brought the house down—many say this is the biggest moment they’ve ever seen in Hall H, even topping the reveal of the Avengers line-up in 2010—and they didn’t bother to put that sh*t online. Full Story

To give you things you didn’t even know you want, such as Jeff Goldblum returning to the Jurassic franchise as sexy mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm. Last night it was announced that Goldblum will be in the as yet untitled Jurassic World sequel, joining Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who will hopefully not be running around in high heels this time (the heels were stupid in and of themselves, but audiences also latched onto them because Jurassic World has a lot of problems under the spectacle and they came to represent that cognitive dissonance). Full Story

The first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok—Taika Waititi’s new and improved Thor—is here, and if you still need any convincing that Waititi is the right person to save Thor, let it be the moment that Thor sees the Hulk in a gladiator’s arena, pure delight spreading across his face. Full Story

New Wave Thor

Entertainment Weekly has the first look at Thor: Ragnarok on its cover this week, and it is an Eighties-fantastic explosion of COLOR and LIGHT and HAIR. Thor’s got an entirely new look, including a new haircut—which I am way into—and a suspiciously missing hammer. Full Story

But it is at least fun nonsensical trash, arguably the only Emmerich movie that is in any way actually enjoyable. Independence Day: Resurgence, the twenty-years-later sequel/soft reboot, is neither fun nor enjoyable—it is straight up nonsensical Emmerich trash. Full Story

In case you need a reminder, Independence Day 2 is actually happening and will be released in summer 2016. April/May is when the summer ’16 movies go into production, and to that end, Independence Day 2 is getting its ducks in a row, announcing some key casting. Relative unknown Jessie Usher will star as the grown-up version of Will Smith’s son from the first movie—Smith won’t be appearing in the sequel—and Liam, The Lesser Hemsworth will also star in a lead role. Full Story

Worse? Many of you are having an issue about the age difference between Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift. She’s 20. He’s 29. They are about to celebrate their birthdays, just six days apart, in a couple of weeks. So 21 and 30. This is Jeff Goldblum last night in Hollywood after dinner at Mr Chow. Full Story

First my review, then Sarah’s thoughts on Aniston’s career below. Well, it’s better than The Bounty Hunter. But of course it is. Jason Bateman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gerard Butler. So here’s a movie about parenting, a formulaic romantic comedy, an absurd – like really, really ridiculous – plot twist that stars Jennifer Aniston. Full Story
