Jennifer Garner: bangs and balance
Jennifer Garner spoke last night at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards. Just Jared has posted video of it – click here to see. Interestingly enough there have been tabloid rumours about Ben Affleck and Emily Ratajkowski from Gone Girl hooking up, presumably because he’s him and she’s hot and his character whimpered into her breasts in a scene from the movie – and Jennifer mentions her in her remarks…but NOT by name, just by referring to her as “the tits on the Blurred Lines girl”. She goes on to confirm that Emily’s are real and spectacular…
And still doesn’t mention her actual name. Uh huh.
Her point though is that that’s all that Ben was asked about during the Gone Girl junket while she had to answer questions about being a mother and work/life balance and why aren’t the men asked more about work/life balance and why do the women have to deal with it all the time…which… fair enough… but…
At the same time, there are female actors in Hollywood who are actually making that motherhood part of their lives part of their professions and say themselves, during their junkets, that they didn’t become whole until it happened. Add that to the baby bump photo shoots, nursery shoots, revealing details about pregnancy cravings, the labour process while they’re promoting their careers and …well… why wouldn’t that follow-up question be asked?
It’s gotten to the point where the actress who DOESN’T put it out there becomes remarkable for it. Take, for example, Penelope Cruz. I have a hard time remembering that Penelope Cruz has kids. She’s talked about it, sure, but not in a spotlight. And I certainly don’t associate it to her public image, her brand. That’s the key word: brand. Many of them have made motherhood part of their BRAND. And if it’s part of their brand, isn’t it then a fair question? Tell me. What do you think?
Attached – photos of Garner from last night and at another event on the weekend. As you can see, she’s starting to wear her bangs off her face. Finally. It’s SO much better.
