Oscar morning hugs
My mother arrives tomorrow. They’re coming for my Olympic Torch Run. I confess, being a rather unemotional person, it’s starting to affect me. Am I getting too sappy? Where’s my bitch? Perhaps a discussion for another time. The point is, I just watched Jeremy Renner’s reaction to his Oscar nomination this morning on The Today Show and the way he and Anthony Mackie hugged each other and I got the goosy bumps. Maybe even a little lump in my throat.
It’s also because The Hurt Locker is such a great film. As I wrote back in October - click here for a refresher - its 98% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 110% deserved. And it’s on DVD now. You should see it before March 7th. It may become the story of the Academy Awards. Looks like the campaign is already beginning.
Jeremy as Best Actor is a long shot. But for him it is truly authentic to say it’s just about the recognition. My only wish, as noted before, is that Mackie could be acknowledged too.
Here’s Jeremy at The Today Show. My friend L remarked on this a couple of weeks ago. He was SO HOT in that movie. Sex and sweat and explosives. But in real life... it’s not the same. Oh hi, my bitch just came back. Is it really all that bitchy though? I prefer to see it as an observation and appreciation too. For the magic and mystery of movie making.
