I don’t like the NFL much these days. A two game suspension for Ray Rice – that’s it? TWO GAMES? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, google Ray Rice (after you’ve finished reading my post!) and tell me what you think of a two game suspension for what he did. Full Story
Rafael Nadal and girlfriend Xisca Perello were at a wedding this weekend in Spain. Cuuuuuute! I love him! I love them! Rafa is enjoying some down time before he prepares for the final slam of the season, the US Open. Mostly they care about the title, but he and Novak Djokovic are #2 and #1 on the tour and the tournament will likely also determine who’s on top to end 2014. Full Story

David Beckham was honoured – sort of – at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards last night in LA. He had his boys Romeo and Cruz with him. H7 is too young and Brooklyn, I guess, doesn’t want to be a “kid” anymore? I totally get that. But how cute is the hair? The Beckham boys family hair. Full Story
That Michael Sam package during the ESPYs last night was one of the best award show moments I’ve ever seen. In fact, the production quality of that entire show was top level. I’ve written before about sports doc “producer porn” after watching several of those 30 for 30 films. They’re beautifully shot, tightly edited, and the story doesn’t need any embellishment. Michael Sam’s story is everything.
And Michael Sam showed up to collect his Arthur Ashe Courage Award, in an arena that included a lot of people who didn’t want him, who don’t get him, who think he’s beneath them, proudly holding onto Vito’s hand, proudly kissing him before he went on stage, proudly declaring his love for him while he was accepting his honour.
All I’ve been able to find so far is Sam’s speech but I’ll keep looking for the short film that preceded it because, sports fan or not, it’s worth your time. Read Full Intro
Derek Jeter will play in his final MLB all-star game tonight. And everyone is making a big deal of it (because he IS a big deal, and has been for 20 years)...except Derek Jeter. Which is so Derek Jeter.
To honour Jeter’s career, Nike put out an ad, celebrating two decades of his talent, featuring some very big names. The fun is in spotting them, so I’ll leave that for you to enjoy. It’s a beautifully produced commercial, right from the slow motion walk to the plate. And there’s something so classically elegant about a simple tip of a cap, or a hood.
Jeter declined to wear a microphone during the game tonight. They’re saying he might not even talk, like at all. He says he’s just there to play. And that the emotion of it all hasn’t affected him. Good. Read Full Intro
Rihanna was at the game on Sunday. She’s been all over the tournament on her Twitter account. So after Germany’s victory, she partied with the players and the players had the trophy, and she put her hands on it, and now the Daily Mail, because they haven’t sh-t on enough celebrities this week, are calling her out for violating FIFA regulations. Taylor Kitsch was in Brazil for the World Cup. On Friday it was widely reported that he and Colin Farrell are being considered for the second season of True Detective. It’d be a great career move for both – particularly Kitsch who did well on HBO’s The Normal Heart and could use some television stabilising after a rough attempt at the movies. Full Story

Here are some really cute shots of David Beckham with his three boys at the World Cup final yesterday. As you can see, the family B did not cheer for the winning side. Me neither. Don’t be mad at me German gossips. I just really like Lionel Messi. He’s 27. He has one more left in him, doesn’t he? Does he? Anyway, FIFA tried to assemble as many greats together as they could. In the royal box at Wimbledon. As post time, the marquee match is still happening. Roger Federer brings out a lot of stars, and Anna Wintour. Does Suki Waterhouse seem…kinda overdressed? I mean, deliberately dressed. To be photographed. Rolling my eyes now. Suki and Bradley Cooper were seated next to Bear Grylls. Full Story

Genie Bouchard! Canada’s golden girl won her quarterfinal match today at Wimbledon, advancing to the semifinals…which will be her THIRD grand slam semi this year. Wimbledon. They call it the “cathedral of tennis”. And Genie calls herself a princess, sometimes. Well, there was a princess in the cathedral today. Full Story

Olivia Munn was at the premiere of Deliver Us From Evil last night. And Aaron Rodgers was there with her. Their first official Hollywood event as a couple. They were at the Academy of Country Music Awards together as presenters in April…but that was before they hooked up, just. Some athletes look great in suits. Full Story
“We have earned the right to fail.” Is what Iker Casillas said a couple of weeks before the start of the World Cup after Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League win yesterday. And I wrote at the time that…well… it’s not the attitude you want going into the tournament.
So, yeah, they failed. Spectacularly. And Iker in particular took a massive sh-t. I hope Sara Carbonero isn’t as fickle as I am, you know? This won’t be happening this year:
While Spain was getting dumped from the World Cup, the country crowned a new King and Queen, Felipe and Letizia. They made sure it wasn’t happening at the same time as the game, right?
Yours in gossip,
Justin Timberlake has a month off from touring. His wife joined him for a large part of his travels overseas but they were not photographed together often. Now, though, they're back home in California and decided to go golfing this weekend. Paps hang out at golf courses? Let's talk about her golf outfit. Full Story

I dedicate the first photo attached to Dlisted’s Michael K because Hot Harry on Horse is sitting, spread out, and, UM, YEAH. This is the second in what will be a series of three quick royal posts. Here we focus on Prince Harry in green. And sweaty. Playing polo in support of Centrepoint, of which the Cambridges are patrons. Full Story
