Tom Brady’s emails are being analysed because of #deflategate. I feel like this might be like a mini version of the Sony hack in that fascinating details will be reported day by day, as reporters go through the documents. Or, maybe, it’ll just be today. Anyway, if you’re a Vancouver Canucks fan, the most interesting emails might be the ones exchanged between Tom and Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini. Full Story

The Tour de France. Today Lance Armstrong participated in a charity race to raise money for leukemia research. As you can imagine, even though he was invited to ride by organiser Geoff Thomas, he’s being criticised for not respecting the Tour given, well, you don’t need me to explain that. Full Story

This is for NM, her Gossip Genie wish, as according to her, “I’d like him more if he was with Serena”. Anyway there’s a rumour happening that Serena Williams and Drake are dating. Because he attended several of her matches last week. And now it’s been reported that they were making out in the clubhouse. Full Story
Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets yesterday at Wimbledon to get to the finals. You know what I don’t appreciate? Because I’m so superstitious? People are already handing her the win. Don’t call a shutout before the shutout, right? Stop this now. Read Full Intro

Prince William and Catherine showed up at Wimbledon today for the Andy Murray/Vasek Pospisil match which just ended. SPOILER ALERT…. Anyway, it ended in straight sets, in favour of Murray who’s now on to the semis despite looking like he might have a sore arm. Full Story
Venus Williams is 35. Serena Williams is 33. They met on Centre Court at Wimbledon yesterday and while it wasn’t a classic match, the significance here is that it might not happen again. The Williams sisters have dominated this sport for almost 20 years. Between them, they hold 27 grand slams – and that number only includes singles titles! It also doesn’t count Olympic gold medals. Also, if you count how many doubles and mixed doubles championships they share, it’s over 50. You cannot overstate their impact and influence. Sometimes though, I feel like people don’t care enough – about how they became who they are in a sport that wasn’t exactly welcoming, and what they fought through: themselves and everyone else. I’ve linked to it before but I’ll never get tired of this article so I’m going to link to it again – in my opinion the best piece ever written on Venus and Serena Williams, by John Jeremiah Sullivan for the New York Times. Click here.
For all that they’ve done, and how much they’ve won, do you think they get enough respect?
Yours in gossip,
Savannah just sent this over to me and I can’t thank her enough for bringing me so much happiness and cringe at the same time. The New England Patriots celebrated their Super Bowl last night. There was a party. They all received their rings – the biggest rings ever in the history of Super Bowl rings: 205 diamonds in total, and each player’s number customised. Full Story
I was one of those dumb f-cking c-nts. I was a believer. I kept believing, right up to the very, very end. Right up until USADA charged him in October 2012. I’ve written about it before. How much I wanted to hang on to the idea that Lance Armstrong was possible. I read all the books. Then, afterwards, after I had to give that up, I read Tyler Hamilton’s book, The Secret Race (which I obsessed over for weeks). Full Story
Paris. Roland Garros. Where Rafa has ruled for a decade. Rafa is King. Was king? No one knows yet if that moment will become THE moment, the kind of moment when everything changes. And he’s certainly not talking like he wants it to become that particular moment. But it’s hard not to think that way. So this is where I’m starting today because I would have gotten yelled at for ending the day with it yesterday, his birthday.
Rafa was gracious afterwards. He’s been kicking Novak’s ass for almost 10 years on red clay. Following Novak’s convincing victory though, he declared that his opponent is “probably in the best moment of his career”. So that’s what Andy Murray’s dealing with tomorrow. A note on Andy Murray though – and something to read for everyone, not just those of you who follow tennis.
Andy is the first superstar male athlete to work with a female coach, Amelie Mauresmo. He has endured ridicule for it. He has been criticised for it. He has had to defend it. Click here to read about his partnership with Mauresmo…and what a Mauresmo-Murray championship would mean.
