The US Open starts on Monday, which is why the tour’s top players have been in New York this week. They’re preparing and practising but they’re also endorsing. Nike set up a big photo shoot the other day with several of the game’s major players and yesterday it was Rafael Nadal front and centre for Tommy Hilfiger. Read Full Intro

Serena Williams won the Cincinnati Masters yesterday which is the last warmup before the US Open. She lost last week in Toronto so it was a nice comeback to build momentum heading to New York. No jinx. No jinx. NO JINX. But first… a little time to celebrate before turning her focus to the final slam of the year. Full Story

Check out Tom Brady in New York yesterday after his hearing – he’s appealing the NFL suspension after Deflategate – and then later on in the evening he stepped out in casual clothes, looking relaxed and confident under a baseball cap. Deflategate isn’t the only reason Tom’s been in the news this week. Full Story

Tom Brady’s emails are being analysed because of #deflategate. I feel like this might be like a mini version of the Sony hack in that fascinating details will be reported day by day, as reporters go through the documents. Or, maybe, it’ll just be today. Anyway, if you’re a Vancouver Canucks fan, the most interesting emails might be the ones exchanged between Tom and Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini. Full Story

Venus Williams is 35. Serena Williams is 33. They met on Centre Court at Wimbledon yesterday and while it wasn’t a classic match, the significance here is that it might not happen again. The Williams sisters have dominated this sport for almost 20 years. Between them, they hold 27 grand slams – and that number only includes singles titles! It also doesn’t count Olympic gold medals. Also, if you count how many doubles and mixed doubles championships they share, it’s over 50. You cannot overstate their impact and influence. Sometimes though, I feel like people don’t care enough – about how they became who they are in a sport that wasn’t exactly welcoming, and what they fought through: themselves and everyone else. I’ve linked to it before but I’ll never get tired of this article so I’m going to link to it again – in my opinion the best piece ever written on Venus and Serena Williams, by John Jeremiah Sullivan for the New York Times. For all that they’ve done, and how much they’ve won, do you think they get enough respect?
