Habits. They can move quickly, in each direction. We are now sitting near the end of summer, and I am not sure how many of you are in the same boat as I am, but all of the days spent patio hopping and lounging lakeside and beachside have caught up to me. I’m actually terrified of when it comes time to put on my fall clothes because I know they are going to be TIGHT! Well, it is the first week of the New Year and I would not be surprised if most of you reading this have set a New Year’s resolution that involves some sort of weight loss or fitness gain. It is that time of year again, when holiday themed coffees are everywhere. I know I look forward to my local coffee shop becoming decorated for the festive season, but it seems each year this happens earlier and earlier, and with my peppermint latte addiction, I need to be careful. I am never one to tell you not to have anything or to deprive yourself of your favourites treats, but moderation is key and I preach time and time again that you CAN have it all, just NOT all the time. Full Article

Hi Sasha, I have a serious boyfriend who I live with and love. We have a tonne of fun together, get along great, have great sex, our families get along, he is wonderful, caring, supportive and has his shit together financially. Hayley With most of us being so sedentary is muscle atrophy on the rise? How is it reversed? How do you rebuild severely wasted muscle through diet and exercise? What about those people who lose a ton of muscle from starving themselves? How do they gain that back? I'm not talking about any definition, just regular muscle. Full Article

My gym has a digital scale which measures, among other things, body fat and muscle percentage. I'm not driven by the scale, but each January I use its recordings as an assessment and benchmark. I had modest expectations for this year's reading: I increased my gym trips (from 3 to 4-6x/week), lifted heavier weights, completed two distance running clinics and added (admittedly irregular) yoga and Pilates. Full Article

Hi Hayley, Following up on your last two posts, I was hoping you could elaborate a bit more on strength training. Specifically, what are your thoughts on using good ol' gym weight machines? I read (on the Internet... if that counts) that free weights or cross-fit is better, that machines train the wrong range of motions, etc. Full Article

Hi Hayley! After losing over 80 lbs of baby weight through diet and exercise, I got back to my old love, running. This past summer I did 2 10k races, 2 Try-A-Tris and a Warrior Dash. I was starting to work on my goal of a half marathon when I injured my IT band. The sports doctor I saw diagnosed the injury and gave me a series of stretches to do but to be honest, they haven't been helpful. Full Article
