Jon Hamm, director
Jon Hamm was spotted on Monday near his home picking up a snack dressed casually in cargo shorts and a jaunty hat. Works for me.
Re: Mad Men – production on the new season will begin in August. So probably late January/February we’ll see the new episodes on AMC. I wish AMC had no ads like HBO. This is another conversation. Or some know-it-all will jump in and educate on how AMC isn’t like HBO in this that and the other. Also another conversation I’ll save for tomorrow’s liveblog with Duana – product placement in period projects...? I’m too dumb to figure out how that works.
Back to Mad Men – Hamm told Ausiello exclusively that he will direct the Season 5 premiere. Said Hamm, jokingly:
“I watched Slattery do it, and he handled it with such grace and ability and ease. I figured if he can do it, sh-t, I can do it too.”
Apparently Matthew Weiner is super tight when it comes to script details and plot revelations. But directing means that Jon would likely have to see the storyline in advance...? Even he’s not sure:
“We’ll see,” Hamm chuckles. “Hopefully he’ll give me enough time to properly prep. What’s the worst that can happen?”

Do you get the sense that Jon Hamm isn’t ABOVE anything? That he’ll do it all? Because he wants to, yes, but also because he’s not an ingrate? Also... not working is still too fresh and still too recent. Someone like Alex Pettyfer could learn a lot from him.
