Now she’s a Movie Girl

Entertainment Weekly landed an exclusive with Katherine Heigl as the Ungrateful Princess of AssTalk confirmed that she and Seattle Grace have officially broken up. Heigl is done on Grey’s Anatomy and she told Ausiello that this is how it went down:

“I went on my family leave and spent three months in Utah and just got to be a mom, and it changed my whole perspective… That was really the turning point for me. So before I was due back, I spoke again to Shonda about wanting to leave. Then I waited at home until I was given the formal okay that I was off the show. The rumors that I refused to return were totally untrue.”

Instead, Heigl appeals to the MiniVan Majority in explaining that she is leaving Grey’s Anatomy for family. Having recently adopted a baby girl Naleigh, Heigl insists that she wants to spend more time with her daughter:

“And I really wanted to (make it work on Grey’s, but at the same time I just felt like I couldn’t sacrifice my relationship with my child....I started a family and it changed everything for me. It changed my desire to work full-time.”

On the same day the interview was released, Heigl was photographed on the set of Killers with Ashton Kutcher wearing a blonde wig and toting Naleigh to the set. The wig covered the dark hair she’s been wearing in preparation for her role as Stephanie Plum based on the Janet Evanovich novels. The first movie is One for the Money. Obviously if it does well, there will be more. So Heigl will be busy. But no, not as busy as she is on a tv show. And on a hit show like Grey’s Anatomy, an ensemble show like Grey’s Anatomy, she wouldn’t be able to bring her baby to work and hang out in the trailer or anything. It’s much less pressure when she’s headlining a movie, in most of the scenes, intense work for a couple of months at a time. Television shows never go on hiatus either. There are only 22 – 24 episodes in a season. This means prime time actors work year round, right? Sure.

This is about ambition. This is about a TV Girl becoming a Movie Girl. And she wanted out of Grey’s before her child. Way before her child. As usual though, the motherhood excuse just whitewashes her bitch.
