Smutty Fitness: a faster 5km

Hayley Posted by Hayley at November 12, 2015 17:19:06 November 12, 2015 17:19:06

Hi Hayley, I just finished my 5th 5k in the past three years and got my best time, 29.39. In my first 5k in 2013, I ran at 34.00 minutes because I got tired and walked. I shaved off time since then but I'm disappointed because I wanted to run faster this time. I train primarily on a treadmill I have at home, while my second child naps and my eldest is in school. Full Article

Duana Names: You-know-who goes up the hill

Duana Posted by Duana at November 11, 2015 20:23:27 November 11, 2015 20:23:27

Hi Duana, Equally as excited and exasperated to need your help! I'm a longtime reader, and I have a name-nerdy passion that stems from having my own unique name: my parents started 'Riley' for girls long before it was trendy. I was the only one with my name in my high school, and the only female with my name in my town. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Sienna in ruffled baby blue

If you’ve been reading my column a while you know I hate this colour. Baby blue. Insipid is the word I’d use to describe it. To me, if you have to wear baby blue, the outfit has to have some edge, to balance out its blandness. This… is not what I had in mind. A ruffled dress that looks cheap and clubby on a Saturday night. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Ellie looks like wrapping paper

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 10, 2015 16:13:42 November 10, 2015 16:13:42

Have I mentioned I’m an excellent gift wrapper? My ribbon work, in particular, is outstanding. I’m always looking for great gift wrap. If I saw a tube of gift wrap with a pattern like Ellie Goulding’s dress, I’d buy right away. And that doesn’t mean I don’t like her dress. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Zoe’s red carpet pyjamas

I think we might be fighting about this. I love. You hate? But look at that print! There are meerkats! And buffalo! And an old-fashioned telephone! And it just looks so comfortable. And so much more interesting than some strapless dress you’ve seen over and over and over again.   Full Article

Duana Names: Loyal Best Friend or Leading Character?

Duana Posted by Duana at November 9, 2015 19:25:36 November 9, 2015 19:25:36

Hi D, Long time fan of the blog and your column here, and I can finally use (and need!) your help. We are expecting a boy due at the end of November. We like old names that will travel well between English, Spanish and French as we are Spanish speakers but live in an international city and we will continue to do so for a while. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Chloe’s Pi dress

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 9, 2015 18:43:05 November 9, 2015 18:43:05

The first thought in my mind when I saw this dress was Life Of Pi. I like this dress better than I liked the movie. Everyone liked the movie. And everyone hates this dress. That sounds about right. But, really, what’s wrong with it? The dress, I mean. Are you sure it’s the dress and not the wearer? Because if Cate Blanchett was wearing it, you might not hate it so much. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Jennifer Lawrence’s lace booties

I wouldn’t buy these booties. They’re not my jam, I don’t wear a lot of lace. And I never, ever wear it on my feet. That said, they’re a good choice with this outfit. It’s a plain white dress. It’s made interesting by the belt. It’s much more interesting with the shoes. Full Article

Carpets & Candids: Brit’s pink suit

I’m into it. But I’m also curious, just to see, what this would have looked like if her pants were just one size smaller. Same cut, no change to the shape of them, because Brit’s not Reese Witherspoon, we don’t need them tapered at the ankle and tighter, but just one size smaller. Full Article
